- the protective gas contains 0.15 to 1.5% by volume of hydrogen, preferably 0.25 to 1 , 2 vol .-% hydrogen and particularly preferably 0.35 to 0.9 vol .-% hydrogen, a proportion of 0.5 to 9 vol .-% helium, preferably 0.8 to 5 vol .-% helium and particularly preferably 1.2 to 3.5% by volume of helium and a residual portion of argon, that is to say the portions of hydrogen, helium and argon together result in 100% by volume of total gas mixture.
- a ratio of the volume fractions (expressed in volume percent) of hydrogen to helium in the range from 1: 2 to 1: 8, in particular in the range 1: 3 to 1: 5, has proven to be particularly advantageous. Outside of these ratio ranges, either the oxidation behavior deteriorates significantly or the predisposition or both.
