Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for separating the liquid contained in a suspension from the dispersed material in the suspension, especially for separating the granular and/or fibrous constituents of sludges or fibrous suspensions from the liquid, using the centrifugal force by centrifugation. In order to achieve better results, the inventive method uses the electrical conductivity of the liquid and/or material by passing an electrical current of a predetermined strength through the suspension or material during a predeterminable period whilst the suspension is being subjected to the effect of the centrifugal force, according to a known method, to improve the drainage effect and to sterilise the material. The inventive device is characterised in that the filter cover (3) and/or the outer cover (2) are provided as a first electrode in the centrifuge and a component which can be brought into contact with the layer of material (8) deposited on the filter cover (3) is provided as a second electrode. Said first and second electrodes can be connected to an energy source (G).
