Description

" ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR BANKING OPERATIONS BY TELEPROCESSING IN REAL TIME WITH PORTABLE PERSONAL DEVICES "
This patent describes a new electronic system especially developed in order to realize all kind of banking operations in real time, by teleprocessing of data, " on line ", by portable personal electronic bank devices, connected by conventional or cellular phone, or another suitable way, with the computer system which controls a bank or financial corporation, speeding the financial operations and substituting the checks, magnetic cards and credit cards, and all other similar monetary instrument used nowadays, simultaneously allowing a sensible reduction of the paper money, this new system having safeguards against embezzlement and counterfeiting.
One of the more interesting phenomena in the last years of this 20et century is the globalization of all the markets. It's a revolutionary world integration, which ignores geographic, ethnic and cultural differences, inserting each citizen in a one world community, has predicted by Marshall MacLuhan in the 60es.
It's a irreversible mutation, due to the enormous progress in the ways of communication, affecting especially the financial operations by the Bank System, which can involve people and companies in opposite sides of the earth globe.
A good example of these new reality is the bank automation, that gives to each owner of a currency bank account a magnetic card, allowing to make drafts, credits, debts and money transfers on all bank branch or 24-hours electronic cash dispenser of a financial corporation, all over the world.
Notwithstanding these technical progress, there means used for commercial transactions have yet a lot of faults.
The current money is the way more used for payment, and certainly the oldest. The people who lived in Orient, hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus Christ, had your own money, as we can learn in the books who tell us about the story of mankind.
The modern paper money, as the American Dollar, will, from now on, be printed with magnetic characters, to easy its electronic processing, although they will not prevent from counterfeiting. By other hand, the paper money doesn't have some especial sign that show who is its owner, being the prefered goal for the thieves.
The check, the second more diffused mean of payment, was invented in this 20et century, in order to allow heavy commercial transactions, avoiding to handle large amounts of current money. It's more safe than the paper money, because it represents a credit, and it's necessary to cash the correspondent value in paper money in a bank branch
Nevertheless, it has several defects: the need of writing the value, which must be checked by-hand, since it's electronically processed, in addition to other more important defects: the juridical and economical ones. Actually, its main and incurable defect is the possibility of being issued without funds - it's impossible, without teleprocessing instruments, to eliminate the lapse of time between its emission and its withdrawal in the bank where the money is, for uncommonly the check is issued and delivered to the receiver inside the bank - an irregular emission that can really occur.
The resources spent with the intensive use of checks by the Bank System include the costs of paper, printing, manual and electronic handling, classification, microfilming, and all the equipments necessary in each of these steps.
The magnetic cards and other similar instruments of banking automation were introduced because the continuous growth of the quantity of bank accounts, particularly in the greatest banks. These cards have a programmed numeric password, which allows his owners to access he bank account, making the monetary operations at any bank branch or 24-hours electronic cash dispenser.
More safe than the checks, the magnetic cards are susceptible to theft and embezzlement.
Another kind of magnetic card is known as " credit card ", which allows his owner to realize commercial transactions without the use of check or currency, although he can get small amount of paper money in the 24-hours electronic cash dispenser.
There is also a third kind of magnetic card: the " smart card ", who can be electronically " carried " with a amount of credit obtained directly of the current bank account of his owner. It has a use limited to the companies joined by an agreement, and the range of financial operations it can do is very restricted to the transference of the credit stored. All the instruments above described are now in use simultaneously; none can substitute the others, because all of them have its advantagens and defects.
The system detailed in this patent can do it, because it's safe, fast, reliable, allowing its titleholder to realize all kind of bank operations and commercial transactions
The subject of this patent is a new electronic system working in real time, by teleprocessing of data, " on line ", using special portable personal electronic bank devices, connected by conventional or cellular phone, or another suitable way, with the computer system which controls a bank or financial corporation, speeding the financial operations and substituting the checks, magnetic cards and credit cards, and all other similar monetary instrument used nowadays, simultaneously allowing a sensible reduction of the paper money, this new system having safeguards against embezzlement and counterfeiting. The connection between the new device, named " POCKET BANK ", and the bank is made by a extern or a intern modem. The user can make a credit on the bank account of a person or a company, typing a numeric password and the name of the receiver, the number of his account, and the amount of money to be transferred. This credit operation can be programmed for a specific date, like occurs when he bought something using a credit card.
More sophisticated models of these new devices allows the titleholder to access on-line a large range of informations and services, as telephone calls, consult a phonebook list or a address book, operating also as a electronic calculator, electronic pager, kidnapping alert and, on the most sophisticated models, also a miniaturized TV camera.
The basic model presents a lighting or liquid crystal display where his titleholder rights or type his numeric password, this device presenting a external stick for touch the display, in order to choose the desired options in the menus showed in the display, while he user will can choose between a pocket or a wrist device, according with his personal taste.
These models substitute the traditional clock, having an internal electronic circuit that cryptographs automatically the numeric password and all the data regarding the financial transactions. These signals are received and decoded by the computer in the bank, using a software specially developed for this job.
The device shows the bank operation in a screen or liquid crystal display, made with touch control technology, this display acting as a keyboard, activated by the touch of a special stick, attached to the body of the device by a small and flexible cord.
Using the stick, the titleholder can access several menus in the display. When the user buy something in a magazine, he types his numeric password, the name of the store, the number of its current bank account, and the amount of money, and the system credits the value instantaneously, showing the data of operation in the display.
The same display allows the owner to get all information he want about his bank accounts. Coupling the device to a computer equipped with a printer, the transaction can be showed in a printed summary, like a lot of information of different kinds.
The two tables reproduced at the pages 7 and 8, show respectively a example of the weekly report of a current bank account ( Table II ), as can be read in the display of the POCKET BANK, while the Table II presents a possible lay-out for the menu of functions, that also appears in the screen.
For better knowledge of the invention, the drawings referred below show one of the several possible constructions of a personal electronic bank device, in this case a wrist model: Fig. 1 - frontal view of a detail of the wrist device, showing the main menu in the display;
Fig. 2 - view in perspective of the same model; Fig. 3 - exploded view of the device. In according with the drawings, the invention is a new electronic system for realize al! kind of banking operations in real time, by teleprocessing of data, " on line ", by portable personal electronic bank devices ( 1 ), connected by conventional or cellular phone, or another suitable way, with the computer system which controls one or more banks or financial corporations, these devices, which uses a external or a embodied modem, having two principal embodiments: as a wrist bank, or a pocket bank, both replacing a conventional clock and being a cellular phone, the signals emitted being cryptographed by the electronic circuit, while the computers in the bank being capable to receive, decode e process it using a dedicated software especially made for this job, the devices presenting a body ( 2 ) having a base ( 3 ) that receives a miniaturized electronic circuit board ( 4 ) and a special liquid crystal display ( 5 ) or similar, involved by a rectangular frame ( 6 ), the same body having attached a small and flexible external wire ( 7 ) connected to a stick ( 8 ) for touch the surface of the display ( 5 ), in order the user can select the desired option in the menu ( 9 ) showed in the mentioned display, type his numeric password and the data ( the amount of money, the name of the receiver and the correspondent current bank account ) a monetary operation, the display allowing the user to program the date of a money transference, replacing the usual credit card. The new devices may present different models, all of them using state-of-the-art technology, enabling its use to access on-line different kind of data and operating as a phonebook list, a address book, electronic pager, a cellular phone, an electronic calculator, and having a kidnapping alert, setting on the main menu, that sends a coded signal to special receiving apparatus on the police department, the most sophisticated models also embodying a miniaturized TV camera, having a internal link connected by the main menu, allowing the identification of the user on remote connections, as Internet access.
In conclusion, these devices substitutes and eliminates several personal apparatus: cellular phones, wrist watch, electronic address books, potable notebooks, microcomputers and calculators. The conventional and electronic means used today for bank operations ( check, magnetic and credit cards ) will also disappear, while the amount of paper money will be strongly reduced.
The new portable personal devices doesn't need any kind of external electronic selling terminal, being completely, being capable to make bank operations at any place, including vehicles, except planes, attending international rules for preserve the security of flight.
All kind of personal electronic bank devices similar to these above described, being a wrist or a pocket model, and having the same basic characteristics, differing only by the design, materials, size or other esthetic details, will be attached to the scope of this patent.
