Description
The present invention relates to an airbag system with at least two airbags.
A common element today for passive impact protection for a person sitting on a vehicle seat of a vehicle is one or more airbags or gas bags. An airbag system comprising two airbags is known, for example, from EP 0 565 501 A1, which in one embodiment consists of an airbag assigned to the thoracic region of a person sitting on the vehicle seat and an airbag assigned to the head region. A gas generator is separately assigned to each airbag, which, in response to a respective trigger signal, suddenly directs gas into the airbag assigned to it.
The apparatus structure to be operated with this known system and the assembly effort are relatively high. The resulting costs contribute to the fact that airbag systems, which have, for example, a further airbag protecting the head area of the vehicle occupant and the thorax area, are not yet very widespread and are essentially only found in automobiles from the upper middle class.
Against this background, it is the object of the present invention to further develop an airbag system with at least two airbag units each having an airbag in such a way that the apparatus structure and the assembly effort are significantly reduced compared to the previous systems with at least two airbags, so that the system increased in Motor vehicles can be used, and this also in motor vehicles below the upper middle class.
This object is achieved by the airbag system according to the invention, which has at least two airbag units each having an airbag and a gas generator, the at least two airbags and the gas generator being fluidically connected to one another by means of gas pressure lines and forming an independently manageable assembly unit.
Aufwendige Justierarbeiten o.a. entfallen mit diesem System. The expenditure on equipment of this system compared to conventional systems is reduced by using only at least one gas generator. In the system according to the invention there is always at least one gas generator less than air bags. The assembly effort is reduced in that the at least two air bags are connected to one another with a gas pressure line. The gas pressure line is preferably a rigid line, so that the airbag system can be delivered pre-assembled for any type of vehicle and can then be installed as a unit in the motor vehicle. Extensive adjustment work, etc. eliminated with this system. The fitter only needs to place and anchor the unit in corresponding recesses, for example in the back of the motor vehicle. The cost of the system is significantly lower than that of the conventional systems due to the low expenditure on equipment and the easier assembly.
It is known that the passenger cell, for example in the thorax and head area of a vehicle occupant, responds differently in time to a side impact of another vehicle due to the structure of the other vehicle penetrating into the passenger cell. Thus, the space in the thorax area is pushed together faster than in the head area due to the bumper of the other vehicle, which usually pushes first into the passenger cell, so that the airbag, for example for the thorax area, must be inflated to full size after a short time, whereas it is sufficient for the head area if the head airbag is inflated to full size a little later in order to perform a damping function. According to a preferred development of the airbag system according to the invention, these time conditions for filling the air bags with gas are achieved in that the flow resistances of the gas pressure lines are preset accordingly. How the system reacts after the gas generator has been ignited is already specified on the ready-to-install unit by selecting the appropriate flow diameter. For example, the flow resistance of a gas pressure line between an airbag assigned to the head region and an airbag assigned to the thorax region will be preset such that the thorax airbag is initially filled with gas, whereas the head airbag is inflated with a certain time delay. The time requirements can be standardized and determined solely by the concrete design of the unit.
Hierbei zeigt:The airbag system according to the invention can also advantageously be designed in such a way that at least one of the at least two airbags has two chambers which are fluidically connected to one another. For example, it is thought that the one airbag has a chamber which is assigned to the head region of the motor vehicle occupant and a further chamber which is assigned to the thorax region of the person. The second separate airbag could, for example, be assigned to the interior of the vehicle in order to avoid interaction between the driver and the front passenger. In this example, a pressure line would run from the gas generator to the two-chamber airbag and a pressure line to an interaction airbag or - if the gas generator is directly assigned to an airbag - only one pressure line to the other airbag. The invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment according to the drawing figures. Here shows:
Fig. 1 einen schematischen Schnitt durch ein Kraftfahrzeug von vorne, welcher eine auf einem Sitz sitzenden Person zeigt,1 is a schematic section through a motor vehicle from the front, showing a person sitting on a seat,

Fig. 3 schematisch die erfindungsgemäße Airbageinheit.Fig. 3 shows schematically the airbag unit according to the invention.
The airbag system 1 is integrated into the seat 2. In the present case, it consists of two airbag units 6 and 7. The airbag unit 6 is assigned to the head area of the person 3 and the airbag unit 7 to the thorax area of the person.
The system therefore predominantly has two air bags, to which, however, only one gas generator 4 is assigned, which should suddenly fill them with gas in response to a request signal.
In the present case, the gas generator is arranged directly on the thorax airbag unit 7, so that only one pressure line 5 is required here to establish the connection between the gas generator 4 and the airbag unit 6.
3 illustrates the assembly-friendly, manageable unit of the airbag system 1. In the case of a rigid gas pressure line 5 between the airbag units 6 and 7, the position of both airbag units can be preset by the manufacturer. The unit can then be easily inserted into appropriately designed motor vehicle seats 2 with corresponding recesses and fixed there.
