Abstract

A reclosable container (10) is preferably produced by thermoforming. The container has an elongated shape with a dispensing nozzle(14) at one end. Above the dispensing nozzle is a tab (18). When this tab is broken off the container, the nozzle is opened. Adjacent the nozzle is a hinged closure (22). The hinged closure has a shape complementary to that of the nozzle and can be rotated on the hinge (24) to overlap and close the container nozzle. There is an arrangement (28-30) to lock the closure in a nozzle closing orientation and an arrangement (32-34) to provide an air and liquid seal to the nozzle.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS [received by the International Bureau on 14 August 1997 (14.08 97); original claims 1, 4 and 13 amended, remaining claims unchanged (3 pages)]
1. A reclosable container comprising a container body, said container body sealed at one end and having an operable dispensing means at another end said dispensing means having an aperture at an upper end; a first breakaway means disposed above said dispensing means and closing said dispensing means; a hinged closure means adjacent a side of said dispensing means and adapted to rotate on said hinge to overlap said dispensing means, a portion of said closure means in contact with said aperture, the aperture being of the same shape when said dispensing means is closed and is open.
2. A reclosable container as in claim 1 wherein said container is a thermoformed container, a planar border surrounding said container body.
3. A reclosable container as in claim 1 wherein there is a planar border at least partially surrounding said container body.
4. A reclosable container as in claim 1 wherein said hinged closure means has a section with a shape complementary to that of said dispensing means.
5. A reclosable container as in claim 2 wherein said hinged closure means additionally Is attached to said container by a second breakaway means whereby after severing said second breakaway means said closure can rotate on said hinge to close said dispensing means.
6. A reclosable container as in claim 1 wherein said hinged closure means has a locking means to lock said hinged closure to close said
dispensing means.
7. A reclosable container as in claim 6 wherein there is a planar border surrounding said container body, said border has a locking means to accept the locking means of said hinged closure means.
8. A reclosable container as in claim 7, wherein said border locking means and said hinged closure locking means comprise a mating pin and aperture.
9. A reclosable container as in claim 1 wherein said dispensing means and said hinged closure means have cooperating liquid seal means.
10. A reclosable container as in claim 9 wherein said cooperating liquid seal means comprises an interfitting rib and groove arrangement,
11. A reclosable container as in claim 3 wherein said hinged closure means has a lateral groove such that when said hinged closure is rotated to close said dispensing means an upper portion of said planar border enters into said lateral groove to latch said hinged closure.
12. A reclosable container as in claim 6 wherein said hinged closure means has a lateral groove such that when said hinged closure is rotated to close said dispensing means an upper portion of said planar border enters into said lateral groove to latch said hinged closure.
13. A reclosable container comprising a container body, said container body sealed at one end and having an operable dispensing means at another end, a planar border at least partially surrounding said container body, a first breakaway means disposed above said dispensing means and closing said dispensing means, a hinged closure means adjacent a side of said dispensing means, said hinged closure means complementary n shape to said dispensing means and adapted to rotate on said hinge to overlap and close said dispensing means, and a lateral groove on said hinged closure such that when such hinged closure is rotated to close said dispensing means an upper portion of said planar border enters into said lateral groove to latch said hinged closure.
14. A reclosable container as in claim 13 wherein said hinged closure means has a section with a shape complementary to that of said dispensing means.
15. A reclosable container as in claim 13 wherein said hinged closure means has a locking means to lock said hinged closure means to close said dispensing means,
16. A reclosable container as in claim 15 wherein there is a planar border surrounding said container body, said border has a locking means to accept the locking means of said hinged closure means.
17. A reclosable container as in claim 16 wherein said border locking means and said hinged closure locking means comprise a mating pin and aperture.
18. A reclosable container as in claim 13 wherein said container is a thermoformed container.
19. A reclosable container as in claim 13 wherein said dispensing means and said hinged closure means have cooperating liquid seal means.
20. A reclosable container as in claim 19 wherein said cooperating liquid seal means comprises an interfitting rib and groove arrangement.
