Abstract

An apparatus including a square sail (ABCD) consisting of eight cells (1-8) made of a translucent fabric (14) on the outside and of a coloured fabric (18) between the cells, four square air inlets (13) being provided therein and connected to the ends of a T-shaped tubular support (10, 21) by twelve ropes (12) at the front and six ropes at the back. A T-shaped joint (11) is provided at the front end of the rear tube (21) and holds it at right angles to a semi-cylindrical section (20) fitted around the front tube (10) and held thereon by a rubber ring (17). A cord (16) attached to the ring is passed around the front tube (10) and hooked onto a peg (25). A zip (15) along section EF may be opened to release two additional cells which increase the surface area by 25 %. Blocks of water-repellent soft foam (22) with a vent (23) may be inserted into the air inlets (13) and mounted on the fabric (14) by means of a groove (24) in said blocks, and are used to keep water out of the sail in summertime.

Description

SKI A VOILE SAILING SKI
The present invention relates to a kite for sailing.
To sail with a kite, you have to be able to steer it to make it fly close to the ground in the direction you want to go. The lower it flies, the faster it goes and in doing so, it can hit the ground and collapse. I discovered that by using a compact paraglider-style kite, it could slide on snow or water without collapsing. It is enough that the paraglider is compact in shape and when it touches the ground, it does not tend to pivot.
But this kind of kite has long strings that are used to hold and steer it. These can get tangled when you miss a maneuver and it takes time and technique to start again. I discovered that one could use a support formed of two tubes joined together rigidly in the shape of a "T" to which the strings are fixed and which allows both to considerably reduce their length so that they can no longer get tangled and at the same time act in rotation on the sail so that there is no need to actuate the ropes themselves, which greatly facilitates the maneuver.
A paraglider keeps its stability from its elongation, but I discovered that it was enough of two triangular pieces of canvas connected in "V" by two cords at the back of the support in "T" to give the desired stability to a paraglider compact.
When falling, the "T" joint between the two tubes must be able to pivot so as not to break, but it must also be rigid enough not to pivot when it is necessary to control the sail in rotation. . I discovered that it was enough to fix on the front end of the rear tube a semi-cylindrical section which comes to fit on the front tube and which is held there by an elastic band. When the seal forces, it dislodges by lifting the elastic then replaces itself.
Cela donne une meilleure forme à la voile, réduit le temps de fabrication, et permet de l'utiliser sur l'eau.I discovered that you could greatly reduce the number and size of the openings that allow the sail to inflate. It takes longer to establish it but the internal pressure is also good. This gives a better shape to the sail, reduces the manufacturing time, and allows it to be used on water.
To use it on water, I discovered that it was enough to wedge in the openings blocks of water-repellent "foam" provided with a groove to wedge the canvas there, and pierced with a chimney to let penetrate the 'air. When the sail falls on the water on the side of the openings, the water cannot go up the chimneys and enter the sail. I discovered that you could easily remove or add a section of two cells to the sail by adding a zipper in the center. We can reduce or increase the sail area by 25% and have only one sail for all wind sampling.
I discovered that you could use very thin woven polyethylene (3.2 oz / yd2) for the outer covering of the sail, which only supports air pressure. This part of the sail requires a canvas of less resistance than the sections where the ropes are attached. This canvas is light enough for ski sailing because it takes a minimum wind of 15 km / hr to advance on the snow. On the other hand, it is 7 times less expensive than that currently used for paragliders. As it is 100% waterproof, the openings can be reduced to almost nothing while maintaining the same air pressure in the sail. For internal sections, heavier (more resistant) polyethylene or light nylon can be used.
