Definitions
- the present application relates to a device for storing, transporting and discharging bulk goods, e.g., in powder or granulate form, where during transport the bulk goods are stored in a rectangular-shaped container and when discharged from the container are expelled therefrom, where the container is equipped with a motor-driven, endless, horizontal belt having transverse scrapers in order to conduct the bulk goods which are being filled or have been filled into the container toward a transverse discharge conveyor at an end wall in the container, and where said belt extends essentially over the full length and width of the interior of the container.
- bulk goods e.g., in powder or granulate form
- a device of this type is known from German Offenlegungsschrift 2739737, where the endless belt with scrapers is mounted at a fixed, low level in a silo.
- German Patent Publication 2075958 makes known a container where a continuous belt with transverse scrapers is permanently stationed at the top, whilst the container is equipped with a floor capable of being moved upward as the container is emptied, to secure a constant, even discharge. This floor is moved upward by means of a pair of scissor lift arms.
- German Patent Publication 3233742 relates to a silo which is provided with a scraper conveyor which can sweep across the surface of the container. The scraper conveyor is suspended in stays. The taught solution is practical in connection with silos of the type in question.
- German Patent Publication 1 178373 has certain features similar to those disclosed in the last-mentioned German publication.
- Containers having air bags in the sides and a centrally placed conveyor are also a known principle, but to date have not been used commercially, probably because of costs and/or technical complexity.
- the objective of the present invention is to provide a device of the type mentioned by way of introduction which makes possible door-to-door transport of bulk goods, without any need for storage, and provides an efficient discharge of the bulk goods.
- the bulk receptacle/container is a transport container, preferably a standard ISO container; that said belt is supported by a lowerable frame which is vertically moveable essentialh over the container ' s internal height;
- the belt in a known way per se has an open structure with open spaces between transverse scrapers in the belt, whereby the bulk material, when the ISO container is being filled, can run freely through the opening between the transverse scrapers; and that the lowerable frame is either provided with a sliding block which forms a slideable engagement with vertically positioned guides inside the container, or is provided with a wheel at each corner thereof, said wheel being designed to roll against each of the respective internal corners in the container to keep the frame in the correct position horizontally during its movement in a vertical direction, or at least two opposing sides are provided with two support arms which at a respective midpoint are pivotally connected to one another in order to form a pair of scissor lift arms, one of the arms being pivotally connected to the roof or upper wall portion of the container and slideably connected to the frame, and the other arm being slideably connected to the roof or upper wall portion of the container and slideably connected to the frame.
- angled knee plates are positioned along the internal, longitudinal bottom edges of the bulk Teceptacle/container, and rounded end plates are placed along the internal, transverse bottom edges, the smallest space between said bracket plates corresponding approximately to the width of said belt.
- the advantage of this solution is that the bulk goods can be transported by train, boat and/or transport lorry and placed at the user's, the container functioning as a pure storage container until the bulk goods are emptied from the container.
- a sensor or a device designed for the purpose can be used to control the feeding into the transverse conveyor, so that the discharge from the ISO container can be controlled by starting/stopping the transverse conveyor.
- Fig. 1 shows a first, preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention.
- Fig. 2 shows a second, modified embodiment of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1.
- Fig. 3 illustrates details of the device according to the invention which are not in evidence in Figs. 1 and 2.
- Fig. 4 shows an additional detail of the device according to the invention which is not in evidence in Figs. 1 to 3.
- Figs. 5 and 6 show a third, modified embodiment of the device according to the invention.
- the present invention is based on a standard ISO container which can, e.g., be 20, 30 or 40 ft in length, or a similar bulk receptacle/container.
- the container 1 has a internal lining 2 of a smooth material.
- An especially designed conveyor unit 3 is suspended in the upper part of the container.
- This conveyor unit consists of a frame 4 of almost the full width of the interior of the container with longitudinal support and slide rails 5 for drive chains or belts 10.
- the drive motor 8 may be a totally enclosed, explosion-proof electric motor, pneumatic motor or hydraulic motor.
- the power supply takes place via a cable or hose 9, and in those cases where a pneumatic motor is used exhaust gas will be conducted through a separate exhaust gas hose (not shown).
- the drive wheels 6, 7 and 54 pull belts or chains 10, in the illustrated example three such belts/chains where members 11 are placed transverse to the belts to serve as transverse scrapers. The size, number and shape that these transverse scraper members 1 1 are given will vary depending upon the area of application and the type of material in the bulk goods.
- the said belts/chains 10 At the one end of the conveyor opposite the drive wheels 6. 7 and 54, the said belts/chains 10 turn about respective wheels 55, 56 and 57. These wheels are interconnected by means of a common shaft 58.
- the frame 4 may also be made as a sheet structure 41, e.g., a light sandwich board.
- a sheet structure 41 e.g., a light sandwich board.
- Both the embodiment in Fig. 1 and that in Fig. 2 will be provided with support and slide rails 5 for the transverse scraper members 1 1.
- the closed version of the framework 4, as illustrated in Fig. 2, will in practice be capable of "floating" on top of the bulk goods/material, whereas the open version, as shown in Fig. 1, must be fed downward in a controlled fashion.
- Both types of frame will in any case preferably be suspended in a wire system consisting of a lifting motor 12 with a balance spring 13 which is tensioned when the frame is in the lower position or bottom position.
- the motor 12 is connected via a transmission 12' to a drive shaft 16.
- Wire drums 14 and 15 are connected to the shaft 16, and from these drums there run two wires 17 and 18 via moveable pulleys 19 and 20 for attachment in the side of the frame 4.
- the conveyor is held in place by four vertical guide rods 25, 26, 27 and 28 which are attached at the bottom and the top of the container.
- other forms of guiding are also conceivable, e.g., with the aid of guide rails or pulleys which run against the side and end walls in the container.
- Figs. 5 and 6 show an alternative solution for keeping the frame 3 and belt of transverse scrapers 1 1 in horizontal position during the vertical movement of the frame. This is to equip the frame 3 on at least two opposing sides thereof with two supporting arms 33 and 34. The arms 33 and 34 are pivotally connected to one another at a respective midpoint, commonly indicated by means of the reference numeral 35.
- One of the arms 33 is at a first end 33 ' pivotally connected at a point of rotation 36 at the roof 1 ' or upper wall portion of the container 1, and slideably connected at a second end 33" to the frame 3 along a sliding guide 37 on the frame.
- the other arm 34 is at a first end 34' slideably connected to the sliding guide 38 positioned at the roof 1 ' or upper wall portion of the container 1, and pivotally connected at a second end 34" to the frame 3 at a point of rotation 39.
- one of said ends 33" or 34' can be actuated by a jack, toothed bar/screw connection, wire pull or similar, so that the frame 3 can be moved up and down in a controlled manner.
- a transverse feed screw 40 which is placed in a tube 41, said tube 41 being provided with a slit 42.
- a cover plate 43 prevents the cavity from being filled up uncontrollably.
- Conveyor belts or other forms of chain conveyors could also be used.
- the transverse discharge may also be replaced by a transverse hatch 44 which is optionally provided with a flap in the bottom of the container.
- this solution will require a suitable conveyor at the recipient's, so that the container 1 can be positioned at a distance above a conveyor of this kind.
- the conveyor 40 is operated by a motor 45. This motor can be of the same type per se as the motors 8 and 12.
- the transverse feed screw is mounted directly onto the floor of the container and at one end passes out through the side of the container via an aperture 46, as shown in Fig. 3.
- This aperture when not in use or when the container is being transported, will be sealed with a lockable cap, e.g., having a bayonet coupling or similar. Connection to the present device at the recipient's will take place via a pipe socket having a corresponding coupling.
- the use of the container takes place in that the transverse feed screw 40 is activated and run at a desired rate, so that the material flow is adapted to the recipient ' s transport facilities.
- the discharge system in the container may be directly connected to the recipient's transport facilities in position at the production plant.
- the longitudinal conveyor When the container is filled, the longitudinal conveyor is normally raised right up to the top of the container.
- the material is filled through one or more holes 51. as indicated in Fig. 3, in the top of the container and right through the open conveyor as shown in Fig. 1.
- the material in the container When filling a container which makes use of a "closed” or “floating " conveyor, as shown in Fig. 2. the material in the container will be distributed whilst filling is in progress in that the conveyor runs constantly during filling.
- the conveyor is equipped with holes which correspond to the filling holes in the top of the container.
- both types of conveyor as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 could be used to spread the material during filling to make best possible use of the volume of the container.
- the conveyor unit 3 In order to keep the conveyor unit 3 in the correct position horizontally and to be able to move it vertically essentially over the internal height of the container, the conveyor unit is provided at each corner 3' with a wheel 60, see Fig. 4, which diagonally rolls against each of the internal corners 1 ' in the container.
- the present container system is not only intended to be used as a transport system for bulk goods, but would also serve as an appropriate storage system.
- Existing factories, but especially new plants, can thus be built without investing in expensive silos for bulk materials, in that the inventive container also functions as a storage silo with automatic discharge by means of direct coupling to the recipient's transport facilities.
- a return-based system will mean that the container and load can be parked at a suitable place and discharge automatically until empty, whereupon it can be replaced with a full container. Investments in permanent material stores in the form of silos, storehouses etc. will thus be unnecessary.
- the discharge system of the container can be made universal or can be adapted to particular types of bulk goods materials.
- the device according to the invention can be used for most types of transport and distribution tasks for bulk goods.
- Conceivable examples of bulk goods are feed concentrates, fertilisers, plastic granulates, sugar, flour, chemicals, cement or similar, although these types of bulk goods should not be regarded as being in any way limiting for the application of the invention.
