Abstract
A tool for use with semiconductor devices has an insert for shaping and/or severing the devices as well as a holder for the insert. The holder is provided with a pair of crisscrossing grooves while the insert is provided with a pair of crisscrossing ribs. The ribs fit into the grooves to position the insert with respect to the holder. Two clamps are mounted on the holder via screws which can be loosened to permit rotation of the clamps. The insert fits between the clamps and has two slots which are arranged to respectively face the clamps. The clamps are provided with tongues which can be moved into and out of the slots by rotating the clamps. When the tongues are in the slots and the screws are tightened, the insert is locked to the holder.
Claims
1. A tool, particularly for use with semiconductor devices, comprising, in combination: an insert for shaping or severing objects; a holder for said insert, characterized by said holder having a planar surface abutting said insert and being provided with a pair of continuous grooves orthogonal to each other and recessed into said planar surface, said pair of grooves having first longitudinal axes which intersect, said insert being provided with a pair of continuous ribs orthogonal to each other and having second longitudinal axes which intersect, said grooves and said ribs being complementary to one another, said insert having a pair of slots with each slot of said pair of slots located on a separate side wall of said insert on opposite sides of said insert; and clamping means connected to said holder and rotatably coupled to said pair of slots in said insert for selectively providing a clamping action between said insert and said holder.
2. The tool of claim 1 characterized by said clamping means having means for moving said clamping means between a locking position and a release position.
3. The tool of claim 2 characterized by said clamping means comprising a pair of locking elements each having a tongue member.
4. The tool of claim 3 characterized by each said tongue member is elastically deformable so as to lock said insert to said holder by a spring-like action.
5. The tool of claim 3 characterized in that said tongue has a tip, said clamping means having an axis of rotation which is eccentric with respect to said tip.
6. The tool of claim 5 characterized in that said clamping means has a substantially flat surface which faces away from said tip, said axis being located nearer said flat surface than said tip to provide clearance between said clamping means and said insert in said release position.
