According to the invention the method is characterized by the combination of the following steps: two or more plates (1, 2) of a relatively hard material, which have a rectangular and/or square design, are placed beside and in a close contact against each other so that a continuous area is formed by the plates; essentially entire the continuous area of the adjacent plates (1, 2) is provided with a complete-covering, flexible plastic sheet (3) which is fixed on the plate by glue. The invention also relates to a back part device manufactured according to the method.

Description

A DEVICE FOR FURNITURE INDUSTRY
This invention relates to a method of manufacturing a foldable back part device for use within furniture industry when manufacturing wardrobes, kitchen cupboards, book cases and similar furniture. The also invention relates to a back part device manufactured according to the method. In accordance to known technique the back part of for instance a book case is manufactured from a complete plate, which is usually made of hard board. Before the plate is put into the book case, that side of the plate, which is intended to be directed inwards in the room, is painted.
During recent time it has become very usual to sell furniture in parts for do-it- yourself-customers. In this connection the customer buys a final package in the shop for a later mounting of the piece of furniture at home, or the shop delivers the package directly home to the customer. The problem with this handling when buying book cases, cupboards or wardrobes has been the transport of the large back part, which comprises a complete plate.
This invention intends to remove the problem with known technique and to present a back part device for book cases, cupboards, wardrobes and similar furniture, which means that the size of the card board box of the furniture package can be reduced, the transport costs can be reduced and that the transport damages can be reduced.
This has been made possible by a method according to the kind mentioned by way of introduction, which is characterized by the following steps: - Two or more plates of a relatively hard material, which have a rectangular and/or a square design, are placed beside each other so that they form a continuous area;
- Essentially entire the continuous area of the plates, arranged beside each other, is provided with a complete-covering, flexible plastic sheet, which is fixed on the sheets by glueing. Due to that fact the back part device becomes foldable but inspite of this fact can function as an effective back part of a piece of furniture.
The invention shall be described more closely below with reference to the accompanying drawings, where Fig 1 shows the rear side of the new back part device, and Fig 2 shows the front side of the back part device. With "rear side" in this connection is meant that side which is intended to be directed towards the wall of a room where a piece of furniture with the new back part device is intended to be placed. Thus, with "front side" is meant that side of the back part device which is intended to be directed in towards the room. The plates have been made thicker in the drawing than what they are in reality for the sake of clarity. Furthermore, the back part device is shown in angled position, also for the sake of clarity. When being used in a piece of furniture, however, the back part device is completely straight.
With reference to the drawing is shown there the new back part device, which comprises two plates 1, 2, which are made of hard board, chip board material or any other hard, wood based material. These two plates are rectangular and/or square. Furthermore, they are preferably of the same size but may of course be of different sizes. Thus, one plate could be rectangular and the other one square. The two separate plates 1, 2 are connected to one unit which is kept together with a flexible plastic sheet 3, which is fixed on the two plates by a suitable glue, for instance a PVAC-glue.
When manufacturing the new back part device two plates 1 , 2 are placed beside each other in such a way that the edge portion of the one plate 1 rests against the edge portion of the other plate 2. In this connection the total size of these two plates ought to be of essentially the same size as the back part of that piece of furniture which the new back part device shall be fastened on.
That side of the two plates, put together, which is intended to be directed outwards is provided with glue which is put on over the entire surface of the two plates, put together. Thereafter the plates are coated with a suitable, flexible plastic sheet which preferably has such a size that it can encase at least two opposite edge portions 4, 5 of the unit formed by the plates 1, 2. Due to that fact, the plastic sheet is effectively sticked onto the unit. This arrangement makes possible that the two plates 1, 2 are kept together in a secure and effective way. Furthermore, the arrangement makes possible that the unit formed by the plates 1 , 2 can be folded completely together, i.e. with the side portions 6, 7 coated with the sheet resting against each other. This fact, in its turn, makes possible that the size of the back part device is drastically reduced, for instance to the half if the two plates 1 , 2 are of the same size. This fact results in a reduced size of the card board box when wrapping up the furniture package, reduced transport costs and reduced transport damages.
Another important advantage with this new invention is that no painting work is required, which has to be carried out on conventional back part devices, because the plastic sheet of the new back part device can be white or be given another colour. Thus, the only thing that is to be done is that the side of the unit, provided with the plastic sheet, is placed in that way that it is directed out towards the room and not towards the wall.
An example of the new back part device shall be mentioned below. Two rectangular plates of the same size and of hard board with a thickness of 3 mm are positioned beside each other, each of which having two longitudinal and two transverse edge portions. The one longitudinal edge portion of the one plate is put in close contact against the one longitudinal edge portion of the other plate. In this way is created a unit of the two adjacent plates with a width which is intended essentially to correspond to the width of the imagined piece of furniture. The front side of the unit which is intended to be directed outwards in the room when using the unit in the piece of furniture is provided with PVAC- glue which is coated over the entire side. Thereafter a flexible plastic sheet is applied over the entire glue-coated side. This sheet has preferably such a size that it can encase the opposite, longitudinal edge portions of the unit. For this reason, glue is also coated on the rear side of the unit at the longitudinal edge portions. Due to this arrangement the fastening of the sheet on the plates will be extremely secure. If necessary, the transverse edge portions of the unit can be made straight by sawing.
The invention is of course not limited to the shown and described embodiment but can be modified within the scope of the following claims. Thus, the new idea could for instance also be used if the number of plates, put together, is larger than two.
