Abstract

A vehicle power distribution system comprises an input (36) for connection to a power supply (B), a first output for connection to main vehicle services (16'), a second output for connection to auxiliary vehicle services (16), and an inertia system including a switch (12, 31, 32) for breaking a connection between the input and the first output and for controlling a connection between the input and the second output in response to vehicle accelerations over a threshold value. The invention also includes inertia systems for breaking a vehicle power supply, not necessarily including other features of the distribution system, which include a movable contact and fixed entry and exit contacts, the entry contact comprising a first portion shaped in such a way as to attach and electrically connect the end of connecting cable from the device to a battery and a second portion in conjunction with the first providing a fixed entry contact suitable to co-operate with the movable contact, the entry contact being an integral part of the internal electrical circuit of the device. In another inertia device, a rod is provided with lateral protrusions to move a contact and is itself moved by a pivoted armature formed from a single piece of ferromagnetic material with two wings provided with notches to engage the protrusions and located on opposite sides of the rod, pivoting of the armature in response to an inertia device causing movement of the rod to break the electrical connection.
