Abstract

The invention relates to a spreader for sand, salt, etc. comprising a container, e.g. rectangular, for spreading the material. It is characterised in that the container is supported on a vehicle by means of two support bars (2, 6) passing through support sleeves (3) and also through openings in the container (1), at least one of said openings (4) being laterally oblong, preferably rectangular with sideways extension, enabling the container to be fitted at different distances between the support sleeves of the vehicle.

Description

Attachment means for spreader
TECHNICAL HELD
The present invention relates to a spreader for sand, salt, etc. comprising a container, e.g. rectangular, for spreading the material.
BACKGROUND ART
Various types of spreaders for sand, gravel, oil gravel, salt, etc. exist for road maintenance. A number of designs are commercially available such as spreaders which are towed or carried on the chassis or platform of a vehicle.
Conventional chassis-borne designs require adjustment of the spreader when changing to a different vehicle since the distance between the support sleeves attached to the vehicle varies from vehicle to vehicle. This applies even to vehicles of the same make and model.
The adjustment requires tools and is often time-consuming due to corrosion of the attachment elements.
As a result each spreader is only used for one particular vehicle, thereby entailing lack of flexibility and poor utilization of the company's capital.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention provides a solution to these and other associated problems and is characterised in that the container is supported on a vehicle by means of two support bars passing through support sleeves secured to the vehicle and also through openings in the container, at least one of said openings being laterally oblong, preferably rectangular with sideways extension, enabling the container to be fitted at different distances between the support sleeves of the vehicle. The spreader can thus easily be moved between different vehicles without the use of tools. The support bars are laterally adjustable through the oblong opening(s) and can easily be fitted to different vehicles.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows a side view of the spreader and attachment means, Figure 2 the spreader and attachment means seen from the assembly side, and Figure 3 shows the embodiment with the two support sleeves on the vehicle. PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Figure 1 shows the container (1) of a spreader. Two support bars (2, 6) are passed through the spreader, at least one of which is movable and can be locked in axial direction by means of locking bosses (5).
Figure 2 shows the spreader with attachment means, seen from the assembly side. One support bar (2) is secured in the container (1) and the other is passed through a laterally oblong opening (4), e.g rectangular with sideways extension. The first-mentioned support bar (2) may also be arranged movable in the same way.
The support bars (2, 6) are insertable into support sleeves (3 in Figure 3) in the sides of the vehicle, the sleeves being permanently fitted. The distance between these support sleeves (3) may be different in different vehicles, and thanks to the oblong opening for one or both support bars (2, 6), the spreader can be fitted onto different vehicles with different widths as described above. The lateral location of the support bar (6), for instance, may differ in the rectangular opening (4) and this may apply to both support bars if oblong openings are provided for both. One or both support bars may thus be movable.
Figure 3 shows the support sleeves (3) seen from above on the vehicle, to which the support bars (2, 6) shall be attached. Adjustment of the support bars to different widths of sleeve (vehicle) is thus simple and quick, and the same spreader can be fitted to different vehicles without the use of tools for adjustment. The oblong opening (4) may be provided with a rectangular sleeve welded into the spreader (1). Alternatively the spreader may be provided with oblong brackets, not shown, having the same function as the sleeves (4).
The invention can be varied in many ways within the scope of the following claims.

Claims

C L A I M S
1. A spreader for sand, salt, etc. comprising a container, e.g. rectangular, for spreading the material, characterised in that the container is supported on a vehicle by means of two support bars (2, 6) passing through support sleeves (3) secured to the vehicle and also through openings in the container (1), at least one of said openings (4) being laterally oblong, preferably rectangular with sideways extension, enabling the container to be fitted at different distances between the support sleeves of the vehicle.
2. A spreader as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that one or both support bars (2, 6) are movable and lockable in axial direction.
3. A spreader as claimed in claim 2, characterised in that at least one support member is lockable in axial direction by means of a locking boss.
4. A spreader as claimed in any of the preceding claims, characterised in that one support bar (2) is fixed.
