Abstract

A sheet (12) has a larger quadrangular part with two symmetrical notches (22, 24) in an intermediate position on two opposite sides and transverse to the said sides; a flap (30) is joined to the edges of a third notch (26), on a third side transverse to the said two sides. The edges of the first two notches (22, 24) and of the third side (18) are provided with detachable connecting means, so that sleeves are obtained by joining the edge of each notch with a respective part of the edge of the third side, while the flap (30) forms a collar or hood. The sheet can be folded up into a cushion and, by threading a belt into appropriate slots, forms a bag for carrying on the back or a shoulderbag.

Description

DESCRIPTION
SHEET TRANSFORMABLE INTO GARMENT, FOR EXAMPLE INTO A BATHROBE, AND FOLDING INTO A BAG
It is commonly experienced on a beach, for instance, that it would be useful sometimes to have at hand a sheet to lie on, and sometimes a bathrobe to put on to dry oneself. It is also common experience how inconvenient and tiring it is to carry both these things with one.
The aim of this application is to meet the need to have with one a sheet or a bathrobe according to need, but with minimum bulk and weight for carrying about.
This aim has been achieved with an object like the one claimed in claim 1.
Further characteristics are described in the subsequent claims.
The invention consists in particular of a transformable sheet of material, usable as a beach towel or as a garment, particularly a bathrobe, which preferably can also be rolled into a pack for carrying.
To go into greater detail, a sheet is foreseen, with an approximately quadrilateral larger part for example, in which on two opposite sides two notches are made which extend in a direction substantially transverse to the respective sides, and each one for a length about equal to a quarter of a third side at right angles to the said sides. A third notch is made about halfway along the said third side and a flap of material, which is generally rectangular or trapezoidal, is applied to the edges of the third side. The edges of the third side and the edges of the said two notches mentioned first are provided with connecting means for releasably connecting to each other, for example strips of hooked woven tape, fastening by pressure (for example of the type known as "Velcro") and/or snap fasteners.
The free edges of the flap are provided with connecting means for releasably connecting to each other, for example a zip fastener. Preferably the sheet is completed with a separate belt.
To transform it into a bathrobe, the edges of each of the two notches on opposite sides are opened and are joined to the edges of a corresponding half length of the third side, thus obtaining a kind of sleeves and a front part of the garment. The flap comes into position around the wearer's neck and on his or her chest so that it forms a shawl collar if left open, or a hood if closed. The object can also be folded so that all of it enters into the hood, for easy handling and carrying. In this way it forms a cushion and can be adapted by a belt and suitable slots into the shape of a sack or bag, for carrying: the advantages afforded by such object are obvious: it can be used for several different purposes and it is easy to transform.
An exemplary embodiment will be described below with reference to the appended drawings, in which it is illustrated merely for the sake of example and not restrictively, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view of the sheet opened out, with the end flap folded up;
Figure 2 illustrates the same sheet, with its flap shown opened out;
Figure 3 illustrates the sheet formed into a bathrobe, with the hood;
Figure 3a illustrates the sheet formed into a bathrobe, with a shawl collar;
Figure 4 illustrates the sheet folded up into a cushion;
Figure 5 illustrates the sheet folded up into a backpack;
Figure 6 illustrates the sheet folded up into a shoulderbag.
With reference to the figures, the sheet which is the object of this application is shown as a whole with number 10. It comprises a substantially quadrilateral main part 12, which can be either rectangular or square or possibly trapezoidal or of some other shape; variations are possible with wavy or notched edges. The part 12 has a first vertical side 14 and a second vertical side 16, a third upper side 18 and a fourth or lower side 20, preferably substantially parallel. The sides are referred to as upper, lower etc. with reference to the position in the garment form and not in a restrictive sense. At an intermediate height, the opposite sides 14 and 16 have notches, 22 and 24 respectively, which extend transversely to the sides, preferably parallel to the third side, and each one for a length preferably about equal to a quarter of the said third side. The edges 22a,
22b; 24a, 24b of these notches are provided with connecting or joining means, so that each notch can be closed with the said means in an openable way: that is, 22a is integral with 22b and 24a is integral with 24b.
The third side 18 is provided with connecting means compatible with analogous means carried by the said notches.
Such coupling or connecting means can comprise tapes of hooked material which can be fastened together by pressure and/or snap fasteners and/or zip fasteners etc.
In the median position, the said third side 18 has a transverse notch 26 to whose flaps an auxiliary flap, shown with 30, is permanently joined.
The flap 30 is substantially rectangular or trapezoidal-shaped when opened out, and its edges are provided with coupling means between each other, for example a zip fastener, one of whose toothed tapes is positioned on the edge 30a and another on the edge 30b.
The sheet 10 can be suitably completed with an eyelet loop 32 preferably applied to the base of the auxiliary flap, with a pocket 34 and a belt 36, possibly provided with fastening means (not illustrated) at the ends. A further slot 38 can be foreseen in correspondence with the connection between the edge 18b (or 18a) of the part 12 and the edge 30b (or 30a) of the hooded part or flap 30. A further slot 40 can be realized in an intermediate position on the said edge 30b (or 30a). The button 42 can be located at the joining between the edge 18a (or 18b) and the edge 30a (or 30b), in a position opposite the slot 38.
The sheet 10, arranged as in figure 1 or as in figure 2, can be used as any other beach towel. To transform it into a bathrobe, the sides 22a and 22b of the notch 22 are spread out (so that they align with 22a and 22b), and then they are joined to the part 18a of the side 18. The sides 24a and 24b of the notch 24 are spread out and applied to the edge 18b of the side 18; in this way, as can be seen in figure 3, sleeves and a front part of the bathrobe are formed. When the auxiliary flap 30 is left open, it forms a shawl collar, while when the edges 30a and 30b of the flap 30 are partially joined, a hood is formed, as shown in figure 3.
For carrying, the sheet can easily be folded up inside the flap 30, which in such case is closed with its whole edge 30a against 30b. In this condition, it can be used as a cushion.
In addition, by threading the belt 36 through the slots 32, 38, as illustrated in figure 6, the sheet can easily be carried about as a shoulder bag; by threading the belt through slots 32, 38 and 40, as shown in figure 5, the sheet can easily be carried about as a backpack.
Obviously variations to the example described above can be thought of, for instance it could leave out the flap 30 or some of the slots.
