Description

Apparatus for filtering liquids.
The invention relates to an apparatus for filtering liquids, comprised of a cylindrical and horizontally disposed filter vessel, in which a support: member is rotatable and along the circumference distributed is provided with a number of axes of rotation, each carrying an array of disc-shaped filter elements, while centrally within the filter vessel a chute is arranged, with a conveyor therein for the discharge of the filter cake, loosened from the filter elements and collected into the chute, to an outside the filter vessel arranged and to the chute • connected discharge shaft, which at its bottom side can be closed by a valve movable from below the shaft to this into the closing position.
Such an apparatus is known from the Dutch application 8005787 in the name of the applicant.
With this known apparatus, the valve arranged at the bottom side of the discharge shaft has to be opened for the discharge of the filtercake collected in the discharge shaft, and the filter cake then has to be pushed or blown out of the shaft by the over- pressure in the filter vessel.
This known apparatus has the drawback, that the discharge of the filter cake out of the shaft proceeds with quite some difficulty, while besides further an important pressure loss takes place in the filter vessel.
The invention aims to obviate this drawback of the known apparatus.
The apparatus according to the invention thereto is characterized, in that within the shaft at the height of the bottom side of the chute a valve seat is provided, which cooperates with a second valve, movable from above to below into a closing position, such, that for emptying of the shaft, the conveyor is put out of operation, next the upper valve is closed and after which the bottom valve is opened for the discharge of the cake.
It has appeared, that by the application of the second valve in the discharge shaft, the discharge of the cake in the shaft is facilitated considerably.
The upper valve and the bottom valve in the discharge shaft may be operated in various ways.
In a favourable embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention both of the valves may be operated by means of pneumatic cylinders.
The apparatus will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing.
As is shown in the drawing, the apparatus is comprised of a cylindrical and horizontally disposed filter vessel 1, in which the support member 2 with the drive shaft 3 extending to outside the filter vessel 1 is rotable about the cylinder axis of the filter vessel 1.
The shaft 3 with the support member 2 is operated by the electromotor 4, through the intermediate of the chain transmission 5. Coaxial with and at the end of the drive shaft 3 the feed pump 6 is mounted, and which is operated by the electromotor 7. From the feed pump 6 the pressure and suction pipes 8 irxiicated by the striped and dotted lines run to the hydrαnotor 9, by means of which the evenly along the circumference of the support member 2 distributed and therein lodged drive bushes 10 may be operated.
Likewise rotatable about the axis of the filter vessel 1 the conveyor screw 11 is mounted in the conveyor chute 12, which debouches into the discharge shaft 13. The discharge shaft 13 is at its bottom side provided with the valve seat 14 which cooperates with the valve 15, which may be adjusted upwards in the closing position by means of the pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 16. At the height of the bottom side of the chute 12 a second valve seat 17 is provided, which cooperates with a second valve 18, which may be adjusted downwards in the closing position by means of the pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 19.
The drive bushes 10 are provided with an inner toothing which cooperates with an outer toothing (not shown) provided at the coupling part of the hollow axes of rotation 20 with the arrays of disc-shaped filter elements 21 mounted thereon. The axes of rotation 20 with the filter elements 21 mounted thereon may, by sliding outside in axial direction out of the drive bushes 10 easily be disconnected therefrom and brought outside of the filter vessel 1 through a by means of a cover 22 closeable opening 23.
During operation the filtrate that is passed through the filter elements 21 is drained off through the hollow axes of rotation 20, while the filter cake dislodged from the filter elements 21 may fall dcwn into the chute 12 to be transported into the discharge shaft 13 by the conveyor screw 11.
For emptying of the discharge shaft 13 the conveyor screw 11 is put out of operation, the upper valve 18 is adjusted into the closing position by means of the cylinder 16, and after which the bottom valve 15 by means of the cylinder 19 is opened for the discharge of the filter cake. As is further shown in the drawing, the support member 2 with the drive shaft 3 has the shape of a closed housing, to which the housing of the feed pump 6 is directly mounted, while further the hydromotor 9, the drive bushes 10 and the interlinked chain transmissions 24 are embodied in this, by the support member 2 and the drive shaft 3 comprised, housing, so that only the drive bushes 10 run out out of this closed housing and thus have to be provided there with sealings.
In the housing further an oil under increased pressure is provided in adaptation to the increased pressure prevailing in the filter vessel.
