Definitions
- the invention concerns a mower conditioner of the type stated in the introductory portion of claim 1.
- Various mower conditioners of this type are shown and described in the German Offenlegungsschriften 3441387, 3423410, 2000478 and 1482897.
- the harvesting units in these known mower conditioners can pivot freely about axes in the working position which are substantially parallel with the direction of travel, their ability to follow irregularities on the ground is highly limited and dis ⁇ satisfactory in practice.
- the object of the invention is to provide a mower condi ⁇ tioner of the present type, in which, in addition to being pivotable between a working position and a transport position, the harvesting units are so arranged as to have a good ground following ability.
- the mower conditioner is constructed as stated in the characterizing portion of claim 1, since, in this structure, the harvesting units are also pivotable about axes which are substantially perpendicular to the direction of travel.
- the balanced, pivotable suspension of the harvesting units also provides a good protection for the entire machine when at a great speed it drives over stones or similar irregularities in the field.
- the L-shaped carrier frames also make it possible to use harvesting units having a considerable height, e.g. such as are equipped with a wing drum to throw the harvested material rearwardly.
- the structure defined in claim 2 provides a secure support of the carrier frames in their working position.
- figs. l r 2 and 3 are schematic lateral, front and top views, respectively, of an embodiment of the mower conditioner of the invention mounted on a tractor,
- figs. 4 and 5 are front and top views, respectively, of the main frame with one carrier frame in the working position and the other in the transport position, and
- fig. 6 is a section along the line a-a in fig. 3.
- a tractor having large front wheels 11 and small rear wheels 12 is indicated by 10.
- the direction of travel is indicated by an arrow 13.
- the tractor is equipped with a conventional three-point suspension having two lower arms 14 and an upper arm 15.
- the mower conditioner, which is generally designated 16, is suspended from these arms.
- the mower conditioner 16 has a main frame consisting of a vertical central post 17 and a horizontal, transverse beam 18 secured to the lower end of the central post and forming together with said post a T, as well as a horizontal, longitudinal beam 19, which is secured to and extends forwardly from the upper end of the central post 17.
- a fork member 20 Secured to the outer ends of the transverse beam 18 are fork members 20 which are pivotably connected with their respective arms 14, and secured to the upper end of the central post 17 is a fork member 21 which is pivotably connected with the arm 15.
- each side of the upper forwardly directed beam 17 of the main frame pivotally mounts an angular carrier frame, whose one leg is formed by a beam 22 which is hinged at the free end to the main frame beam 19 by means of a hinge 23, and whose other leg is formed by a tube 24 which is perpendicular to the first leg.
- a hydraulic cylinder represented by a dotted line h and v, respectively, is mounted between the main frame beam 18 and each carrier frame beam 22 to pivot the carrier frame between a lower working position, shown to the left in figs. 4 and 5, and an upper transport position, shown to the right in figs. 4 and 5.
- the carrier frame beams 22 are so connected with the hinges 23, which are mounted on the underside of the beam 17, that the tubes 24 will be inclined in the working position, as shown in fig. 5. In this position the tubes rest in forks 25 which are secured to the outer ends of the main frame beam 18, to which shoes 26 are additionally secured.
- a harvesting unit which is generally designated 27, is pivotally suspended at its lower rear edge from each carrier tube 24, as shown most clearly in figs. 3 and 6, fig. 6 showing a section along the line a-a in fig. 3.
- Each harvesting unit 27 is constructed on a frame 28, which is journaled on the carrier tube by bearing means 29 and has a cutter table 30 with a plurality of cutter discs 31, here six, which can overlap each other, as appears from fig. 3.
- a sliding shoe 32 is fitted below the outermost cutter discs. Stop means (not shown) determine the outer positions, shown in dotted lines, of the sliding shoes 32 during the pivotal movement of the harvesting unit about the carrier tube 24.
- Mounted behind the cutter disc is a driven wing drum 33 which throws the harvested material rearwardly.
- Guide baffles 34 in combination with the inclined position of the harvesting units, ensure that this material will be placed on the ground in a swath between the tractor wheels.
- Power transmission from the tractor to the cutter tables and wing drums of the harvesting units can take place in a conventional manner (not shown) by means of shafts having slide grooves and universal joints as well as gear wheel transmissions having crown wheels and bevel pinions or hydraulically.
- the details of the shown and described mower conditioner may be modified in many ways within the scope of the invention.
- the axes of the hinges 23 may be inclined with respect to the main carrier beam 19 instead of with respect to the carrier frame beams 22.
