Abstract
In a sign arrangement of the kind comprising : (a) one or several substantially vertical posts (1, 2) and (b) a number of sign elements (3) placed in pairs opposite each other on each side of a plane through the axis or axes of the post or posts (1, 2), the new feature is (I) that each sign element (3) on the side facing the post or posts (1, 2) comprises one or several cutouts (4) generally corresponding to one-half of the cross-sectional shape of the post or posts, and (II) that each pair of sign elements (3) is adapted to be secured against each other and in clamping engagement about the post or posts by clasps (5) extending across said plane. When the various components of the arrangement are suitably constructed, this arrangement makes it possible to place the signs in position without the use of tools, whereas they can only be removed by means of tools and with a knowledge of the construction of the sign arrangement.
Description
ARRANGEMENT WITH AT LEAST ONE SIGN SECURED TO AT LEAST ONE POST.
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a sign arrangement of the kind set forth in the preamble of claim 1.
BACKGROUND ART
In previously known arrangements of this kind, it has been necessary to use tools when securing the signs on the posts, since the securing is based on the use of screws, bolts or the like.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
It is the object of the present invention to provide an arrangement of the kind referred to initially, in which the signs can be secured to the posts substantially without using tools, while at the same time it is only possible to remove the signs using tools on the basis on a knowledge of the functioning of the signs, so that the risk of unauthorized removal of the signs is considerably reduced, and this object is achieved with an arrangement, according to the present invention additionally exhibiting the features set forth in the characterizing clause of claim 1. With this arrangement it is possible to secure the signs to the posts by merely holding each pair of sign elements against each side of the post or posts, and inserting the clasps with the sign elements in this position.
The embodiment set forth in claim 2 provides partly
the technical advantage, that the clasps cannot be removed without using tools, partly the aesthetic advantage, that they do not disturb the impression of a generally uninterrupted surface.
Further embodiments of the arrangement according the present invention, the effects of which are explained in more detail in the following detailed portion of the present specification, are set forth in claims 3-10.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
In the following detailed specification, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the exemplary embodiment of a sign arrangement according to the present invention shown in the drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an almost completely finished sign arrangement consisting of a pair of posts, on which three pairs of sign elements have already been mounted, whilst in the fourth pair, viz. the pair next to the lowest one, only one of the sign elements has been placed in position,
Figure 2 on a larger scale shows one end of a pair of sign elements and the manner, in which this pair is secured to the associated post, Figure 3 in three projections at right angles to each other shows an exemplary embodiment of a sign element of sheet material, and Figure 4 on a greater scale and likewise in three projections at right angles to each other shows an exemplary embodiment of a clasp
being a component part of the arrangement according to the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The sign arrangement shown in the drawing comprises two vertical posts or uprights 1 and 2, in the exemplary embodiment shown being connected to each other at the top, although in principle they may also be without such a connection. On the posts 1 and 2 are clamped a number of sign elements 3 placed in pairs, said elements comprising cutouts 4, cf. Figure 2, generally corresponding to one-half of the cross-sectional shape of the posts, so that the sign elements 3 can embrace the posts 1 and 2 in the manner shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The securing proper is achieved by means of a number of clasps 5, as shown in Figure 2 engaging the oppositely facing sides of flanges 8 extending through a small distance inwards from the end surfaces of the sign elements. In order to achieve a reliable securing, the clasps 5 and/or the flanges 8 are springy. If only the flanges 8 are springy, the clasps 5 may be made with several, e.g. three, different opening widths to accommodate any dimensional variations in the sign elements and the posts, such as possibly due inter alia to differences in surface treatment and/or surface coating.
As is especially evident from Figure 3, each sign element 3 in the exemplary embodiment shown constitutes an open box or a flat-bottomed trough, in which the open side faces the other element in the same pair. In the exemplary embodiment shown, each
sign element, in addition to flanges 8 already mentioned, comprises an end wall 9, from which the flange is bent inwardly. In the end wall 9 cutouts 7 are formed immediately adjacent the flange 8 and having a length generally corresponding to one-half of the width of a clasp 5, and these cutouts 7 continue in the flange 8 into cutouts 6 with a depth generally corresponding to the width of the connecting web part 11 connecting the two jaws 10 in the clasp to each other.
As evident from Figure 2 the various components of the sign arrangement are dimensioned in such a manner, that between the sign elements 3 in each pair there is formed a gap 12 of a certain width, e.g. of the order of magnitude 2 mm. The result of this is in part the technical advantage that the clasps 5 may be removed by inserting e.g. a stiff metal wire into the gap 12 and using it for pulling the clasps out, in part the aesthetic advantage of avoiding conspicuous width variations in the butt seam between the two elements, because the appreciable width of the gap 12 will make the variations appear less pronounced.
At the top, the sign arrangement shown in Figure 1 is provided with a lamp box 13 having lamps illuminating the sign surfaces below it. The wiring for these lamps may advantageously be placed within the sign element 3 in question and through suitable holes (not shown) into the insides of the posts 1 and 2, these preferably being tubular.
The exemplary embodiment of an arrangement according to the present invention shown in the drawing and described above comprises two post 1 and 2, but the
invention may also be carried out with arrangement comprising a single post or three or more posts. When using three or more posts, it may be advantageous to place at least some of the clasps on the upper and lower sides of the sign elements instead of solely at the ends as shown, but in that case there must be a certain distance to the adjacent sign elements above and/or below respectively.
The various sign elements may be replaced and/or moved on the posts without any need for securing those pairs of elements, which are not themselves to be replaced or moved, and may be placed with any desired distance between them.
