Description

"Safety Roller Blinds with spaceable slats for windows and doors".
At present the roller blinds for closing windows and doors do not allow sufficient lighting nor ventilation of the rooms . Neither do they provide the user with an outer view nor an actual protection from intrusions. It has been recently granted the European Patent No.
0248537, published on the European Bulletin No 89/37 of 13.09.89, for an armoured roller blind hooked to the side walls. This roller blind provides a good protection but cannot be used during day time since, once rolled down, it darkens the rooms.
The present invention is added to complete the above mentioned one , to resolve, by spacing the structural shapes, the lighting, air circulation and outer view problems, thus allowing the blind to be used for
security as a window grate in day time, too.
Since not all rooms present the same risk of intrusion, two new structural shapes(1,18), linkages(8,23) and a bolt (14) have been created for the construction of two types of roller blinds , of identical outer design to fulfill the safety requisites of the places in which they are installed.
-A- Boiler blinds with double internal armouring.
- In its inner part, the structural shape(1)
evidentiates:
1) An innovative structure with a considerable
strengthening in the upper and lower parts, thus making it suitable to bear the burden of operation and eventual effractiok.
2) A hole(2) to insert a tempered stainless steel rod (12) of the same length of the structural shape, serving as armouring and anchor pin of the linkage(8) to join together the slats(1) forming the roller blind.
3) A cavity(4) for the housing of the accessories (8,9,14) and the filling with polyurethane foam.
4) Two small vanes(3), to strengthen the structural shape, lodging a tempered stainless steel blade (9) of the same length of the slats and having at the ends welded pins(10), the heads of which run inside special guides(27-28) fixed to the side walls.
5) A rounded groove (5) for the housing and oscillation linkage (8a).
- The slats(1) forming the roller blind are joined together by a tempered stainless steel linkage(Fig.5) No.8 ) with two rounded base vanes on the upper part (8a) and a hollow cylinder on the lower one (8b) to allow the pin( l2) for the anchorage to the slat to pass inside the proper groove(7 ) .
In order to lock the roller blind in the desired
position, bolts( Fig.4 No.14) have been inserted
in the structural shapes (1) . The bolts are provided with a special push-button (15) which prevents intruders from rolling up and opening the blind. This push-button(15 ) is lodged in the groove (14a) which has different perimetral depths: one side (14c) has a greater depth than the other(14d) . When the push-button is pressed in a non-operating position inside the structural shape (1 , 18 ) its semicircular vane(15a) is above the side of the 14d, while the semi circul ar vane 15b is above the 14c.
When the bolt is inserted to stop the blind, the top of the push-button (15c) will be positioned in
correspondence to the hole created in the structural shape (Fig.9 No. 30 ) and will spring out preventing the bolt from moving.
In order to prevent intruders from pressing the botton (15) to free the sliding of the bolt (14) , press the botton (15.) while rotating it half a turn with a finger, this way its vane 15b will be positioned on the higher point of the groove 14d and will be blocked.
The small marks (Fig.9 No 15c) on the button (15).
indicate its operating positions.
Assembly of the Roller Blind
Firstly, between the vanes (3) of the structural shape (1) we slide the steel blade (9) from the side where the pin No 10 is without its head No 11, which will be
welded to the pin after it comes out on the other side of the structural shape. The cavity (4)is now filled with polyurethane foam to join the parts together, make them stronger and supply a thermic and soundproof protection. Now we make holes and grooves in the structural shapes (1) to house the linkages (Fig.3 No 8) and the bolts:
1) - a hole (6,6a) in the upper part of the structural shape to drive through the whole linkage 8 (Fig.2, 3).
2) - a hole (6b) in the lower part of the structural shape to drive through the cylindrical part of the linkage (8b).
3 - a groove in the upper part (7) of the structural shape for the housing of the cylindrical part of the linkage (8b) in correspondence with the hole (2).
4) - milling to eliminate the protuberances No 3 inside the structural shape (1) in order to house the bolt (14) in both sides of the slat (Fig.3).
5) - holes in the structural shape (Fig.9 No.30,30a) for the running and the blockage of the bolt (14). Now we assemble the roller blind , starting from
its lower end. First, we insert the linkages (8) in the slats (1)while we gradually slide the steel road (12) inside the holes (2,8b) of the structural shape(1) and the linkages (8).
When the rod (12)reaches the other end of the slat (1),it is blocked by punching some points of its seat (ill.3 No 13).
At last, at the base of the roller blind and higher, we insert the bolts (14) in both ends of the specially arranged slats (1). A plastic cap (Fig.4 No 17)is
applied to regulate the running of the bolt (14) inside the hole made in the structural shape (Fig.9 No 17,30a). - B - Roller Blinds without inner armouring.
For rooms which present minor risks of intrusion we use roller blinds ( Fig.7 No 18) having Structural shapes without inner steel armouring.Though, because of their strength and their featuring pins with head ( Fig.8 No 25) and special holding guides (Fig.5 No 27,28), they can be hooked to the side walls, thus providing a valid protection of the rooms.
The structural shape (18) has the advantage to provide a space, twice as large as the previous one (1),between the slats of the blinds, thus providing more lighting and ventilation to the rooms.
The inner side of the structural shape (18) has several protuberances (19,20) which provide more strength and are useful to the following purposes:
1) - axis of oscillation (20) and seat (21) of the. hook (23) that joins the slats to each other.
2) - seating, between the vanes (19) of the boss (Fig.8 No 24) or of the bolt (Fig.4 No 14).
The joining of the single slats (18) is done by means of hooks (Fig.6 No 23)made of tempered stainless steel and with a varying length, according to desired spacing. The hooks (23) are applied in their proper seating after the spacing (Fig.7 No 22) of the structural shapes (18) and the removal of the vanes (19) have been made.
When the bund is rolled down completely, the above mentioned hooks(23) withdraw inside the two slats which are connected to each other (18), while, when the blind is in tension (Fig.1) they go into the cavity (21) oscillating on the axis formed by the protuberance No20. Die-cast bosses (24) together with steel pins with head (25) are inserted in both ends of the slats(18). Soon after the bosses (24) are blocked inside the structural shapes (18) by punching on the special notches (Fig.8 No 26, Fig, 9 No 13). The bolts (14) are applied in the same way as described for the structural shape of the previous model (1), the same can be said for the injection of the
polyurethane foam . in either of the mentioned models of roller blinds(A-B), the linkages(8, 23), used to connect the slats(1,18)to each other, must be set in an alternated vertical alignment(Fig.1,19)and must not become in touch one another.
