Abstract
Cover disc for promoting plant growth and inhibiting weed growth, comprising a centric, through-going hole (2) and a through-going slot (3) extending from the hole to the circumference of the disc, comprising and being produced by pressing substantially growth promoting substances and possibly binding agents and specific additional materials which all are dissolved after a desired period of time by corresponding choice of the disc thickness in relation to the expected rain fall in the selected location.
Description
Biological disc
The present invention is related to a cover disc for encouraging vegetation growth and. suppress weed growth, comprising a centric aperture and a continous slot from the aperture to the circumference of the disc- Weed is fought down in many different ways in connec¬ tion with raising flowers, vegetables etc. It is of substan¬ tial importance to use growth promoting substances and in this respect largely specific substances are used for growth promotion for specific plants- Different types of cover means for plants are known such as from US 1 143 980, US 2 281 927, US 2 949 698, DE 1 055 276, DE 1 202 558 and DE 3 447 320. Covers of this type are arranged on the ground near and around a plant espe¬ cially in the first important period of growth to avoid weed growth. When the plant has grown to acceptable size the covers may be removed.
With the cover disc according to the present invention a means is provided combining promotion of growth with sup¬ pression of weed during the period of time in which the plant needs to establish a root and a plant as such of acceptable size. This is achieved with the cover disc according to the present invention as defined with the features stated in the claims.
The drawing discloses schematically a plant growing up through a cover disc according to the present invention.
The cover disc 1 according to the present invention is provided with a preferably centric hole 2 and a slot 3 extending from the hole 2 to the circumference of the disc. The hole 2 as well as the slot 3 is through-going. The circum¬ ference of the cover disc preferably is circular, but may also have other shapes. The cover disc is arranged around a plant 4 by guiding the plant 4 through the slot 3 into the hole 2, whereafter the disc is placed on the surface around the plant inhibiting weed growth by covering this area and encouraging growth as well, as will be described.
By covering the earth around the plant, weed growth
effectively is inhibited. The cover disc according to the present invention, however, also contains nutritive substances promoting plant growth. These substances are extracted from the cover disc in rainy weather as part of the disc is dis- solved thereby liberating a small amount of nutritive sub¬ stances to the soil. After a period of time which previously has been calculated, the entire cover disc will be completely dissolved. This period of time may be from 2 or 3 month up to some years and may in forhand be calculated based on the combination of the cover disc thickness and the components used by the manufacturing of the cover disc in relation to the expected rain fall at the selected location.
The cover disc may "be produced of a mixture of fer¬ mented dung from domestic animals, compost, chemical pulp with a binding agent and possibly special additives such as growth inhibiting substances for weed, seminiferous sub¬ stances, insecticides (ferromones) , fertilizers, pestocides etc.
The cover disc may be used as a growth inhibiting agent for weed in agriculture, forestry and gardening to fight not desired plants by shadowing as in this connection is a well known method. The cover disc, however, comprises clean, natural, disintegrating substances which will serve as soil improving agents over a predetermined period of time. In a special embodiment of the cover disc according to the invention, a further disc containing seed embedded in a jellylike mass is pressed into the centric hole 2. The cover disc is placed on the earth and the smaller disc con¬ taining the seed, thereafter is pressed down into the earth to desired depth.
The cover disc according to the present invention also can be used as an integrated protection of the plants as the cover disc may be moistened for production of ferro- mones. An accurate dose and positioning of the ferromones easily can be achieved in relation to the noxious animals to be treated.
Claims
1. Cover disc for promoting plant growth and inhibi¬ ting weed growth, comprising a centric, through-going hole (2) and a through-going slot (3) extending from the hole to -the circumference of the disc, CHARACTERIZED IN the disc (1) comprising and being produced by pressing substantially growth promoting substances and possibly binding agents and specific additional materials which all are disolved after a desired period of time by corresponding choice of the disc thickness in relation to the expected rain fall in the selec¬ ted location.
2. Cover disc according to claim 1, CHARACTERIZED IN the growth promoting agents comprise fermented dung from domestic animals.
3. Cover disc according to claim 1-2, CHARACTERIZED IN the growth promoting agents comprise compost, turf, chemi¬ cal pulp, etc., or a mixture of such.
4. Cover disc according to claim 1-3, CHARACTERIZED IN the- additional substances comprise growth inhibiting agents, seed carrying material, insecticides, fertilize con¬ centrates, pestosize, etc., of a mixture of such.
5. Cover disc according to claim 1-4, CHARACTERIZED IN a small disc containing seed embedded in a jellylike mass being arranged in _ the aperture, later to be pressed out and into the soil.
