Abstract

Device enabling to spread and vibrate road materials in the mass during the spreading thereof to facilitate compaction. The device may be mounted either on conventional machines or on self-propelled specially designed chassis, and it may be comprised of a vibrating box formed of a curved plate (1) and of two sidewalls (2). The bottom part of (1) in contact with the ground on which the material is to be spread must be flexible to conform to the deffects of the ground evenness. The component of the vibration of (1) is substantially contained within the horizontal plane. The material is tipped on the upper part of the box. The vibration of the box causes the material to go down to the spread layer, arranges the granulates before the setting thereof on the ground. This precompaction facilitates a further compaction of the material by conventional means. The device enables to alleviate the conventional compaction works and consequently reduce costs. Road layers thus built are therefore more compact and more homogeneous in density. The quality of the smoothness and the mechanical characteristics of the road are improved.

Description

Vibration device in the mass of pavement materials during their spreading and compaction.
The present invention relates to a device making it possible to better rearrange the aggregates of the materials for pavement layers (bases, foundation, shapes, surface, etc.), when they are spread, precompact them to facilitate the compacting of these materials.
By pavement materials, we mean all the materials constituting pavements such as gravel, sand, fine soil, mixed with any binder (hydraulic or bituminous) or without binder, with water or without water, or mechanically stabilized.
The spreading of these materials, before compacting by rollers with smooth or pneumatic rims, vibrating or not, is traditionally carried out using either graders, or machines with sliding formwork, or finishers .....
(fig 1).Some spreading materials, for example the paver or autograde, when spreading the material, try to arrange the aggregates together, thus creating a precompaction by vibrating by contact on the upper surface of the layer of materials with either a vibrating formwork or a vibrating table .. (fig 1).
The vibrations thus transmitted to the aggregates are quickly absorbed by the thickness of the material, and only the aggregates near the vibrating surfaces are put in place, arranged and easy to compact. The aggregates being in the middle or at the bottom of the layer, little influenced by the vibration on the surface are therefore not or little arranged, this makes subsequent compaction difficult at these levels. The surface materials are well compacted tees while those at the bottom of the layer are only weakly so. We then observe in the pavement layers thus produced strong density gradients which reduce the performance of the material and. of the structure.
Le dispositif selon l'invention permet de remédier à cet inconvénient,The device according to the invention overcomes this drawback,
Elle peut être réalisée par exemple, soit à l'aide de membranes souples (4) en caouchouc ou autre matériau souple fixées au caisson (fig 4), soit que le fond de (1) se termine par des lames (5) découpées sur la tôle de (1) (fig 5).Figures 2 and 3 respectively represent the perspective and the section of the present invention, The device consists of a vibrating metal box having a bottom formed by a curved plate (1) and two side walls (2). is not closed at its top as well as the material side of the spilled material. The box is vibrated at its base by vibrators (3). The lower part of the box in contact with the surface of the ground on which the material is to be spread must be flexible in order to match the unevenness of the ground. It can be carried out, for example, either using flexible membranes (4) made of rubber or other flexible material fixed to the box (fig 4), or the bottom of (1) ends in blades (5) cut on the sheet of (1) (fig 5).
The box is partially closed on the side of the spilled material by any system allowing the thickness of the spilled material to be adjusted. This can be constituted for example by a vibrating blade (βj adjustable in height according to the desired profile of the spread layer and independently of the box or a rotating grooved drum system, At the place of the exit of the spread layer, the walls ( 2) may have a shape which allows the lateral walls of the layer of the spilled material to be molded directly. To facilitate the flow of the spilled material, vibrators can be mounted at this location.
Le sens de déplacement du système est indiqué par la flèche de la figure 2 ,The main vibration of the box is carried out using vibrators (3) mounted on a horizontal beam welded to the bottom of (1). The vibrators are mounted so as to impose on the box a vibration essentially contained in the parallel horizontal plane. at the surface of the spilled material, the vertical component of the vibration is almost zero or negligible with respect to the amplitude of the horizontal vibration. This can for example be obtained by vertically arranging the axes of the imbalance vibrators. If the power of the vibrators is insufficient, we can add in this case other rows of vibrators parallel to the first row. The device can be mounted either on a self-propelled cart or on one of the traditional spreading systems. The direction of movement of the system is indicated by the arrow in Figure 2,
The material is poured into the box at its top. The vibration of (1) and (2) by (3) and the advancement of the device brings the material down to the spread layer, arranges the aggregates throughout the thickness of the layer and precompacts the material, this facilitates the subsequent compaction by traditional means (vibrating tables, vibrating plates or vibrating or pneumatic compactors). In FIG. 3 is shown an example of compacting by vibrating soles or checkers (7). (11) represents the loading of the material. The use of this device makes it possible to lighten the traditional compaction workshop, and consequently reduce the cost price of the implementation. The materials of the pavement layers thus produced are more compact and more homogeneous in density. The quality of the level and the mechanical performance of the pavement are improved.
