Abstract

A fishing sinker launching device (Fig. 1) and a compressed air powered fishing rod (Fig. 2) both use compressed air to launch a bullet-style sinker (14) which consists of a lead body with or without plastic enclosure. Compressed air, stored in a pressure tube (1) with a quick action valve (4) at one end, is supplied from a tyre pump through a tubeless tyre air valve fitting (2). The sinker (14) which carries a fishing line is accelerated inside a launching barrel (5) by the expanding air when the quick action valve (4) is open. Fixtures (15, 16) are provided on the pressure tube (1) of the launching device to allow an ordinary fishing rod to sit parallel to it. The pressure tube functions as the butt of the compressed air powered fishing rod. The launching barrel (5) forms the middle section and a tapered rod (21) parallel to the launching barrel forms the tip of the compressed air powered fishing rod.

Description

FISHING SINKER LAUNCHERAND COMPRESSEDAIRPOWERED FISHING ROD
I, Wai Ming Tsang, of 74 Inglis Street, Sale 3850 Australia, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:-
This invention relates to a method of launching fishing sinkers and to apparatus for carrying out the method.
The normal method of launching a fishing line is to cast a weight or sinker by hand tossing a fishing rod. Using this method, an average person could cast a distance of about 60 meters. It is an object of the invention to provide a method of launching fishing sinkers capable of casting fishing lines further than by normal hand tossing of fishing rods. It has been found that, using the method and apparatus of the invention, one can easily cast fishing lines to more than 150 meters.
Thus, according to the invention, there is provided a method of launching fishing sinkers by utilising the energy stored in compressed air, whereby an air pressure tube is provided for the storage of the compressed air which can be released and expands through a launching barrel and accelerates a bullet-style sinker which in turn carries the fishing line.
According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided apparatus for launching fishing sinkers by utilising the stored energy in compressed air, said apparatus comprising means for storing and releasing compressed air, means for the compressed air to expand in order to accelerate a bullet-style sinker and means for constructing fishing rods whereby all the abovementioned means form integral parts of the fishing rods.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 shows the assembly of the fishing sinker launcher.
Fig. 2 shows the assembly of the compressed air powered fishing rod. Fig. 3 shows the enlarged view of the base plate along line I-I. Fig. 4 shows detail of the tubeless air tyre valve along line II-II. Fig. 5 shows the enlarged view of the pressure tube body clamp along line III-III . Fig. 6 shows the enlarged view of the joiner between the launching barrel and the taper section along line IV- IV. Fig. 7 shows the enlarged view of the sinker.
The fishing sinker launcher represented in Fig. 1 consists of an air chamber, a launching barrel, a sinker and supporting fixture
The compressed air powered fishing rod represented in Fig. 2 consists of an air chamber, a launching barrel, a sinker and a taper section. Air chamber
Air is compressed into the air pressure tube 1 through the tubeless tyre air valve 2 by using an ordinary hand, foot or car battery operated tyre pump. The bottom end of the tube 1 consists of an over pressure rupture disc assembly 3 to prevent overpressurisation. The top end of the tube 1 consists of a 90-degree turn valve 4. The compressed air stored in tube 1 will be discharged into the launching barrel when valve 4 is turned open. Launching barrel
The function of the launching barrel is to accelerate the sinker 14 by the expanding air from tube 1. The launching barrel consists of a uniform internal diameter barrel 5 which is in two lengthes joined by a clamp 7 for the fishing sinker launcher and in one continuous length for the compressed air powered fishing rod. The threaded valve bush 6 is for the launching barrel to screw onto and unscrew from the valve 4. The fishing reel winch fitting 8 provides attachment for an ordinary fishing reel 13 onto the fishing rod and the hypalon grip 9 provides comfort for holding the fishing rod. The barrel 5 and the taper rod 21 are joined togather by the joiner 10. The first line guide 11 prevents the fishing line from touching the joiner 10 and guides the fishing line towards the other line guides 20. The tip reinforcing ring 12 provides extra strength for the barrel 5 when the taper rod 21 is placed on top of the barrel 5.
Sinker
The sinker 14 is bullet shaped with two shoulders in order to minimise the friction between the sinker 14 and the barrel 5 as the sinker 14 is travelling through the barrel 5. It is constructed either of heavy density metal such as lead or of heavy density metal such as lead enclosed fully or partly by plastic materials. Supporting fixtures
The top hole of the end plate 15 and the the air pressure tube body clamp 16 provide support for an ordinary fishing rod just above the fishing sinker launcher at an angle parallel to the barrel 5.
The two lengthes of the barrel 5 can be clipped alongside the tube 1 by the two tool clips 17 and the two side holes of the end plate 15.
The support stand 18 provides anchorage into sand and sets the barrel
5 at an optimum launching angle of about 30 degrees from horizontal.
The whole fishing sinker launcher can be carried on shoulders by the two shoulder straps 19. Taper section
The taper section consists of a taper rod 21 and a series of fishing line guides 20. Its function is to sense the biting of fish and guide the path of the fishing lines.
The taper rod 21 can be taken out of the joiner 10 and placed on the top of the barrel 5 to form a longer fishing rod.
