Abstract

A practice attachment for firearms (1) provided with a bolt. The practice attachment comprises a practice bolt (3) and a practice barrel (2). The practice bolt (3) is exchangeable against the normal bolt of the firearm (1), and the practice barrel (2) can be inserted into the barrel (6) of the firearm (1). The handle (11) of the practice bolt (3) includes a gas discharging container, and at the firing of the firearm (1) a valve means (10) is actuated to release a gas batch, which via a passageway (35) is directed to a bullet (19) located in the bore (23) of the practice barrel (2), whereby the bullet (19) is forced out of the firearm (1). The practice attachment renders possible less expensive practice firing and practice firing indoors with firearms, which normally are intended for ammunition containing a powder charge.

Description

Practice attachment for firearms
This invention relates to a practice attachment for firearms provided with a bolt.
At practice firing, for example with a sporting gun of the type repeating rifle or the like, the ammunition cost is a considerable expense item. This fact is of substantial detriment for thos who by assiduous pract¬ ice try to improve their efficiency of handling the firearm.
It is possible, of course, to practice instead, for example, with an air-rifle, for which the ammunition is cheap to procure. This implies the disadvantage, however, that one cannot practice with the rifle which one desires to have command of.
Though it is known since long to manufacture special firearms, the bullets of which are propelled by a gas at overpressure, none so far has had the idea to prov¬ ide a practice attachment according to -the present invention, by which a firearm, the bullets of which normally are propelled by a powder charge, simply can be altered so that the bullets are propelled by a(gas at overpressure. This now has been made possible in that a practice barrel is attached in the firearm . barrel, and the bolt of the firearm is replaced by a practice bolt. The practice barrel preferably has a calibre permitting the use of commercially available air-rifl'e-..bulle s.
The present invention, thus, has the object of produc¬ ing a device, which offers the possibility of less expensive practice firing with a rifle provided with a bolt. This object is achieved in that the invention has been given the characterizing features defined in the claims.
OMPI ttym, WIPO The invention, besides, implies the great advantage of rendering it possible to practice-fire indoors with firearms, which normally are not intended for such use.
Embodiments of the invention are described in greater detail in the following, with reference to the accompan¬ ying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a schematic lateral view, partially cut through, of a practice attachment according to the invention mounted in a rifle, Fig. 2 is a lateral sectional view of the bolt of the practice attachment on an enlarged scale, and Fig.- 3 is a lateral sectional view of the handle of the practice bolt on an enlarged scale.
The rifle 1 shown in Fig. 1 is provided with a pract¬ ice barrel 2 and a practice bolt 3-
The practice barrel 2 is designed so as to fit into the bore 4 of the rifle in question, and in this case it also is provided with two shoulders 5 effecting the practice barrel 2 to be fixed axially. This is poss¬ ible because the barrel 6 of the rifle 1 has a recess permitting said fixing. The practice barrel 2 further is provided with a magazine 7.
The practice bolt 3 comprises a rear portion 8, a front portion 9, a valve means 10 and a handle 11. Figs. 1 and 2 show the practice bolt 3 in charged or--cocked state. The rear portion 8 and the front portion 9 are connected to each other by a screw 12, in such a manner, that the rear portion 8 can slide along the screw 12, which is surrounded by two springs 13, 1^■> the functions of which will be explained below. The valve means 10 is screwn onto the front portion 9- The handle 11 is connected via a pipe 15 to a space 27 of the valve means 10. The leading portion of the front portion 9 facing to the practice barrel 2 is formed so as to fit into the rear portion of the practice barrel 2. The sealing in the contact area between the practice bolt 3' and practice barrel 2 preferably is- improved by means of, for example, sealing rings. 16,17.
The handle 11 includes a container 18 for a gas, for example C0„, suitable for propelling a bullet.19. The container 18 can be inserted into the handle 11 by re¬ moving a sealing plug 20, which is provided with a pin 21, the object of which is to puncture the container 18 when the plug 20 is being screwn in, so that the gas can flow out of the container. The plug 20 further is provided with a sealing ring 22.
The practice bolt 3 is adapted to be exchangeable against a bolt normally associated with the rifle 1. The' operation of the practice bolt required at the charging of the rifle 1 thereby is the same as the operation at the use of the normal bolt of the rifle 1, and the practice bolt 3 is actuated by the trigger mechanism of the rifle 1 in the same way as the normal bolt of the rifle 1 is actuated by said trigger mechan¬ ism.
The rifle 1 is charged as follows. The practice bolt 3 first is pulled in the usual way by means of the handle 11 in the direction to the practicing person. A bullet 19 in the magazine thereby drops down into the bore 23 of the practice barrel 2. Thereafter the practice bolt 3 is moved forward into contact with the practice barrel 2. The rear portion 8 is prevented from moving forward * in that a surface 2k of a bar 25 attached to the rear portion 8 abuts a portion of the trigger mechanism of the rifle 1. This implies that the rear portion 8 ass¬ umes the position A, whereby the spring 13 is compress¬ ed. At the aforesaid forward movement of the practice bolt 3j the bullet 19 which had dropped down into the bore 23 is moved by the leading portion of the front

The gas in the container 18 produces an overpressure in the handle 11, in the pipe 15 and in the space 27 of the valve means. This overpressure, together with a spring 28, causes the control member 29 of the valve means 10 to maintain the valve means closed. In order to additionally improve the sealing function of the valve means 10, the control member 29 is provided with a sealing ring 30. Upon actuation of the trigger 31' of the rifle, the following occurs.
The trigger mechanism portion abutting the surface 24 springs down, so that the rear portion 8 of the pract¬ ice bolt 3 can move in the direction to the front port¬ ion 9 by action of the spring 13. A shoulder 32 located on the rear portion 8 thereby actuates a rod 33 of the control member 29, which thereby is opened moment¬ arily. A sufficiently great amount of the pressurized gas in the space 27 is thereby passed to a space 34 of the valve means 10 and further through a passageway 35 of the front portion 9 to exercize a force against the bullet 19 located in the bore 23 of the practice barrel 2, which bull-et 19 thereby is fired from the rifle 1. The spring 14 returns the rear portion 8 so that the leading edge of the shoulder 32 assumes the position C. Thereby the control member 29 of the valve means 10 is returned to closed position due to the gas pressure prevailing in the space 27 and due to the spring 28. The rifle 1 now can be charged again, whereby the leading edge of the shoulder 32 assumes the charging position A and a new bullet 19 is fed into the bore 233 whereafter a new firing can take place, a.s.o.
It is further to be mentioned that, as the overpress¬ ure of the gas in the space 27 decreases, the valve means 10 permits an ever increasing batch of gas to pass through at firing, due to the fact that the gas in the space 27 exercizes an ever decreasing force act¬ ing from the shoulder 32 against the stop. This contrib¬ utes to an increase of the number of satisfactory firings to be effected by each container 18.
The magazine 7, of course, can be designed in several different ways other than the one shown. It may, for example, be a pipe with transparent walls.
It is also to be understood that, as the design of the practice bolt 3 and practice barrel 2 at least to a certain extent must be adapted especially to different firearm makes, their design can vary in several differ¬ ent ways within the scope of the invention.
The invention, thus, is not restricted to what has been described and shown, but alterations and modifications thereof can be imagined within the scope of the attach¬ ed claims.

Claims
1. A-'-practice attachment for firearms provided with a bolt, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the practice attachment comprises a practice bolt (3) and a practice barrel (2), that the practice bolt (3) is designed so that exchangeability against the normal bolt of the firearm exists, that the practice barrel (2) has a bullet hole (23) and is designed so that it can be inserted at least partially into the barrel (6) of the firearm, that the practice attachment comprises means (18) discharging gas at overpressure, that the practice attachment comprises a valve means (10), hich at the firing of the firearm releases the gas batch- wise, and that the practice attachment includes a pass¬ ageway (35) 3 which directs the gas batch to a bullet (19) located in the bore (23) of the practice barrel for applying to said bullet (19) a force propelling out the bullet.
2. A practice attachment as defined in claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the valve means (10) is connected to a front portion (9) of the pract¬ ice bolt (3), and that a rear portion (8) of the pract-r ice bolt (3) is capable at the firing to momentarily actuate the valve means (10).
3. A practice attachment as defined in claim*-1 or 2, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the gas* dis¬ charging means (18) is located in a handle (11) conn¬ ected to the practice bolt (3)-
4. A practice attachment as defined in any one of the claims 1-3, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that a magazine (7) for bullets (19) is connected to the practice barrel (2).
