  • the actuating handle, here designated as 35, of the actuating device is swivelled in any arbitrary direction so that the rotating shaft 31 is twisted in either direction, whereby the cam element 34 is made to expand upwards and thus displace the two actuating rings 28, 29, and thereby lower all the locking bodies 9, 10 against the action of the associated spring elements 17, 18.
  • Fig. 4 and 5 cer ⁇ tainly show the same height for the movable section 5, but it is ob ⁇ vious that adjustment and locking between the two sections of the pedestal can take place at widely differing heights, even though the height shown in Fig. 5 indicates that only lowering of the movable section 5 is possible.
  • Fig. 6 and 7 illustrate the adjustment device in accordance with the invention in the third embodiment with the arrangement in the release position for shortening the pedestal in Fig. 6 and in the re ⁇ lease position for lengthening the pedestal in Fig. 7.
  • the spring 20 is instead located at the top of the arrange ⁇ ment and is clamped between a supporting washer 37 which is sup ⁇ ported by the column 14 and one end 38 of a group of cylinders fixed in the movable section 5 with a cylindrical casing 39.

  • the damping element 27 is made from an elastic material, for example, plastic, rubber or the like and has a central punched hole 41 the diameter of which is originally selected to be considerably less than the diameter of the column 14, for ex ⁇ ample several, millimeters in relation to the diameter of the column which is of the order of 10 mm.
  • the hole 41 exhibits a degree of taper with a diameter which increases upwards, which in conjunction with the freedom of movement of the damping element downwards gives a high degree of damping of the relative displacement movement of the two sections 4, 5 during the raising of the pedestal, i.e. during the lowering of the movable section 5.

  • the movable section 5 is lowered by depressing the actuating lever 21 in the actuating device 7.
  • the actuating lever 21 is namely rotably mounted in a pivot pin 42 located near the wall of the movable section 5, so that the actuating rod 25 is pressed downwards which results in the locking bodies 10 being pressed downwards and released from their seating 12, so that the pedestal can be lowered.
  • the damping element 17 attempts to press against the supporting washer 16 and thereby increase its friction against the column and to brake the relative movement downwards on the part of the movable section without however hindering this, which results in an extremely smooth movement.
  • the actuating lever 21 is raised when the movable section 5 is to be raised, during which the locking bo ⁇ dies 9 are lifted at t ⁇ ie top from their seatings 11 and the clamped state is released. Due to the friction of the damping element 27 against the column 14 the damping element, as shown in the diagram, is deformed in such a way that it attempts to increase its diameter in the hole 41, which results in reduced friction against the column and a damping which is reduced in comparison with the lowering movement is obtained.
  • the need for damping is for natural reasons not so great during a lifting movement, because the lifting movement takes place against the effect of a load, e.g. a person sitting on a chair. During the lowering movement however with a person sitting on a chair a higher degree of damping is required to avoid damage which could be occasioned by excessively violent locking.
  • the locking bodies can, be cylindrical or tapered bodies instead of sphe ⁇ rical.
  • the column 41 can have plane surfaces and have for ex ⁇ ample rectangular, square or triangular cross sectional shape.
  • the number of locking bodies 9, 10 can vary from extending in ring fashion around the column 14 to one upper and one lower locking body.
  • the actuating device can be designed in a number of different ways. For example it is feasible that the handle be replaced by a wheel in the second embodiment.
  • the mechanism for displacing the actuating ring or actuating rings can similarly be designed in many different ways .
  • the resilient elements 17, 18 can be replaced by spring washers or other spring elements . It is furthermore feasible that the two seatings face outwards towards the inner walls of the fixed section 4 and that locking is brought about against this wall instead of against the column 14 which can then be omitted. It is also possible for the arrangement to be designed for purposes other than adjustable furniture. For example the displacement movement can be directed horizontally or sloping so as to adjust special objects such as working furniture or the like.

Abstract

Dispositif permettant d'effectuer des ajustements de piédestaux (1) destinés à des éléments de mobilier ou autres et comprenant une section allongée fixe (4) qui est supportée directement ou indirectement par une sous-surface, et une section allongée mobile (5) qui supporte l'élément de mobilier. La section (5) est mobile suivant deux directions opposées par rapport à la section fixe entre des positions différentes d'ajustement dans lesquelles les deux sections sont verrouillables l'une par rapport à l'autre à l'aide d'un agencement de verrouillage commandé (8). Cet agencement possède un dispositif d'actionnement (21) pour passer d'une position de verrouillage à une position de libération. L'agencement de verrouillage (8) comprend un premier et un second ensembles de corps de verrouillage (9, 10) et un premier et un second sièges (11, 12) à l'aide desquels le premier ou le second ensemble de corps de verrouillage coopère. Les corps de verrouillage essaient d'adopter une position de verrouillage par serrage entre le siège associé et une surface de serrage (19) connectée à la section fixe (4), et ces corps de verrouillage passent à la position de libération grâce au déplacement d'au moins un ensemble de corps de verrouillage (9, 10) depuis le siège associé (11, 12) par l'action du dispositif d'actionnement (21).
