DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
Specification forming pnrt of Design No. 5,936, dated June ,11, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
We, N1cnoLAs' S. VEDDER, of the city of Troy, and Tonus S. HEISTER, of Lansingburg, both in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Parlor- Stove, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention relates to a design for the general configuration and ornamentation of a parlor-stove of cast-iron.
In the accompanying photographic illustration, Figure I is a perspective view ofthe stove.
Fig. II is a perspective view of the detached principal parts of the stove. l

A represents the top cover; B, the top ring; 0, the ring connecting the latter with the case Dsurrounding the magazine; E, the frame of the combustion-chamber; F, the mica doors arranged therein; G, the case surrounding the fire-pot; H, the top plate of the ash-pit; l,- the case of the latter; K, the door thereof; L, the .base-plate of the stoveand M, the rear part of the indirect fine. he top cover A is provided at its center with an ornamented polygonal urn or vase, a, having handles a', the upper portions of which are squared and ornamented as shown, while their lower portions are formed of scroll-work. The ornaments of thecover A consist principally of an outer circle, b, of rectangular ornaments and interposed stars; a more inwardly arranged circle b, of stars inclosed in squares, from which bund es of rays radiate outwardly, with interposed polated ornaments of lesser size; and a circle, b', of pointed leaves applied to the highest central portion of the cover. The ring B,
' upon which the top cover rests, is ornament- 4with a. band of squares formed with concave sides and inclosing stars, said squares being connected by interposed square figures of lesser size. The ring O is embellished with two bands c e', of pendent pointed ornaments, arranged one below the other, as shown in Fig. II. The surface ofthe case or shellD surrounding the magazine is divided into several fields or panels, d, by vertical pillars d resting on a common base ornamented as shown. The pillars d' are connected at the top lv semicircular arches, and between top an base by a horizontal band, d, all of which are applied in basscrelievo, while the depressed panels d are ornalnented with intersecting parallel bars and crosses, as clearly shown in Fig. I. The frame of the combustion-chamber E is ornamentcd with intersecting bars and crosses in a similar manner to the depressed panels d of the shell D. Each of the doors F represents a group of three arched windows crowned with a semicircular window and ornamented with scroll-work, &c., as shown. The upper cylindrical portion of the case G surrounding the fire-pot is provided with a row of ornaments, g, consisting principally of vertical serrations and pendent squares and the lower contracted portion thereof is ivided into panels g by vertical ornaments, each panel bcing provided with a central ornament suspended from the sides, as clearly shown in Fig. I. The upwardly-projecting ring h of the top plate H of the ash-pit is provided with two bands of ornaments similar to the ornaments of the ring (l, but reversed so as to point upward, as clearly shown in Fig. II, while the corners of the plate are embellished with scrollwork. The sides ofthe case I ofthe ash-pit are arranged in panels by projecting ornamented ribs, as shown at I, Fig. 2, the depressed portion of the panels, as well as the door K, being ornamented with intersecting parallel bars and crosses in the same manner as the case D and otherwise. The upwardly-projecting flange of the base-plateA is provided with a band of ornaments and a molding around the edge, as shown at l in Fig. II. The ornamentation of the back of the indirect ilue by pillars, arches, and a central ornament in each panel, is clearly 'represented at M, Fig. II.
We claim as our invention- Thedesigns for the general form and coniguration of the stove and the ornamentation of the top cover A, top ring B, ringC case D, combustion-chamber E, mica doors F, firepot case G, plate H, ash-pit case I, door K, base-plate L, and indirect line M, as shown and described.
