Description

' DESIGN.
No. 36,254. PATENTED MAR. 31, 1903.
E. E. BOWER.
BADGE.
v APPLICATION FILED JAN. 2, 190a.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA E. BOXVER, OF ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
To (ti/Z whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMMA E. BoWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ann Arbor, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have in vented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for a Badge; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.-
My invention relates to a new, original, and ornamental design for a badge and is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a front view of the badge.
This design pertains to the form and configuration of the complete assembled badge, consisting in a bar, a ribbon, and a pendant. The bar consists in an undulating band of a uniform width from end to end, having a smooth unbroken surface adapted to receive an inscription across its entire face. The band has a narrow smooth raised border-line along its top and bottom edges and has a scroll at the upper edge of its left-hand end and an opposing scroll at the lower edge of its right-hand end. Resting on the upper edge of the bar is a crown through which is thrust a cross inclined downward from left to right, the lower end of the cross passing behind and projecting slightly below the bar. Behind the bar is secured a pendent ribbon having a vertical black stripe on its extreme right and left hand edges, two vertical white stripes inside the black stripes, the remaining surface of the ribbon being red. The lower end of the ribbon is gathered and passes through a ring from which is hung a pendant. The
pendant is a substantially circular medallion,
bearing in its center a representation of a globe, over the central part of which is superimposed in perspective a representation of a circular flat table upon which rests a beehive. Superimposed over the top portion of the globe is a crown through which is thrust a cross inclined downward from right to left. Below the globe and concentric with it is a representation of a curved chain of five links, from each end of which springs a branch of laurel, forming a curved wreath at each side of the globe. Above the globe is a ribbonscroll comprising a central portion and two downwardly-inclined lateral branches, the three together forming a surface upon which words may be inscribed. The outer extremi ties of these lateral scrolls project beyond the circumference of the pendant, breaking its circular contour. An ornamental scroll extends around the circumference of the medallion, parts of the scroll projecting beyond to form an ornamental contour, and the pendant is suspended by a loop secured to the top of the medallion by an ornamental scroll.
My design presents a badge that viewed in its entirety has a new, distinguishing, and pleasing appearance.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is* i The ornamentalidesign for a badge herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
