UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. GAULT, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HERO FRUIT JAR COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORA- TION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR AN ORNAMENTAL BORDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,889, dated April 29, 1902.
Application filed March 19. 1902. Serial No. 99,026. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. GAULT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ornamental Borders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 illustrates a front View of the design; Fig. 2, a transverse section.
The design is applicable as a border to silr5 verware, fancy metal goods, wooden or other moldings, plaster-work, and an endless variety of other articles of manufacture to which it is customary to apply borders.
The leading or material feature of my design consists of two straight parallel narrow plain strips, between which and extending in a curved and oblique direction from one strip to the other is a series of two alternately-arranged ornamental figures, one of said orna mental figures consisting of an approximately horn-shaped device and the other of said ornamental figures consisting of a row of circles that progressively decrease in size from the lower to the upper strip. Adjacent or- 0 namental figures are separated by a slight space which, like the ornamental figures themselves, is shown as progressively decreasing in width from the lower to the upper plain strip. The upper plain strip is shown in re- 3 5 lief, the horn-shaped figures present a convex surface, and the small circles are also shown as raised, so as to form beads, while the separating-spaces are shown somewhat concave.
A represents the upper plain strip; B, the lower plain strip.
0 represents the ornamental ground between the two lines.
D represents the obliquely extending curved raised convex horn-shaped figures.
E represents the obliquely extending curved row of circles or beads.
F represents the obliquely extending curved relatively depressed or concave narrow spaces separating the alternately arranged raised figures C and D.
The strip A is shown as raised above the level of the upper part of the ornamental ground, while the strip B is shown as sunk below the level of the lower half of the ornamental ground. The ornamental ground is also shown as presenting a generally convex outline between strips A and B.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for an ornamental border, as shown and described.
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set myhand, at Philadelphia, on this 14th day of March, 1902.
JOHN H. GAULT.
