Design No. 3,576, dated July 6, 1869.
DESIGN FOR AN AIR-CHAMBER FOR PARLOR-STOVES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, M. B. HUDSON, of Oanandaigua, in the county of Ontario, and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original Design for Exterior Air-Chambers for Parlor-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which the figure represents a perspective view of a cylinder-stove, with my improvements applied thereto.
This improvement relates to an outside chamber, applied to the bottom of a cylinder-stove, for heating the draught before it enters the stove to supply the combustion, said chamber being made of ornamental form, and so constructed as to lit the circle of the cylinder, and bolted thereto.
In the drawing A indicates a parlor-stove, of cylindrical form; and
B represents the air-heating chamber, which is applied to the bottom of the same, covering the register-passages supplying the draught.
-This chamber is made of a capacity sufiicient to heat the air from the radiation before it enters the stove.
Its top is cut with a concave, a, which fits the cirole of the cylinder, and its bottom is also formed with a vertical concave, b, which, by its elevation, allows ashes to be removed from the ash-pit, and fuel to be applied in kindling the fire.
- The chamber is secured to the cylinder by means of flanges c a, through which pass screws.
The draught-air is admitted to the chamber through valves (Z d (l, at the top, the passage 1) being closed at the time by the hearth, which slides up against it.
By this means the air becomes thoroughly heated in its passage downward.
This chamber, in addition to its advantage in heating the draught-air before entering the stove, gives an ornamental effect to a cylinder-stove, in breaking the monotony at the bottom, by an offset or projection that relieves the eye. The circular cavities a and b also add to this effect.
Covers and blowers have been before applied to square cook-stoves and grates; but, so far as I am aware, I am the first to apply an air-heating chamber to the outside of a parlor-stove of cylindrical form, whereby the monotony of the circular contour is broken, and a useful purpose is at the same time subserved.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for air-heating chambers to cylindrical stoves, herein described.
