WITNESSES INVENTOR Allorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTIS A. MYGATT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A LAMP-SHADE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 33,996, dated January 29, 1901.
Application filed June 29, 1900. Serial No. 22,082. Term of patent 7 years.
To (LZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTIS A. MYGATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Lamp-Shades, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a new, useful, and original shape or configuration of an article of manufacture known as a lamp shade or globe and a new and original ornament or impression to be placed on or molded in said lamp shade or globe.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp shade or globe, so called in trade, illustrating the design so far as it may be done by a line-drawing. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the wall of the shade on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the wall of the shade on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
The shade is composed of molded glass or crystal of transparent character. The general contour of the shade is as shown in the drawingsthat is to say, the upper part of the shade, say above line 22, is very nearly the segment of a sphere with the top portion removed. A narrow band at the top is plain and not ornamented by ribs. Below the line 2 2 the outline of the shade is in form of reverse curves until near the bottom, when the form is cylindrical, and this cylindrical portion is plain and not ribbed. The outer surface of the shade has horizontal prisms or ribs projecting from the general surface of the glass, and the inner surface of the shade has vertical ribs, all these ribs being integral with the glass. The ribs on the inner-surface of the glass are visible'throngh the transparent medium and without close examination might be supposed to be on the outer surface of the glass. The eifect of the vertical and horizontal ribs or prisms, the horizontal ribs projecting outwardly and the vertical ribs projecting inwardly from the general thickness of the glass, gives to the glass the appearance of being; made up of small individual crystals or beads arranged in regular horizontal and vertical rows.
What I claim is- The design for a lamp shade or globe, as herein described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OTIS A. MYGATT.
