Description

C. COWLES & CO.,
OF SAME PLACE.
` Design No. 3,239, dated Novembw 17, 1868.
DESIGN FOR A COACH-LAMP GLASS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. Downs, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Coach- Lamp Glass; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this speciication, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a perspective View;
Figure 2, a sectional view of the glass; and in Figures 3 and 4, partial views of a coach-lamp to illustrate the application of the glass.
This invention relates to a design for what is known to the trade as"coachlamp glass, that is, glass to form the sides of coach-lamps, and the invention consists in forming the glass by three curves.
To enable others to understand my invention, I will fully describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the process of manufacture of the glass, cu't to the proper size, the glass is curved longitudinally, as seen in lig. 1, and into the form denoted by the sectional view, g. 2, the central convex surface A, designed for the outside, running into a concave surface, '.B B, toward each edge. This glass may be used in lamps, in which the body is formed as seen in lig. 3, the glass forming one side, as denoted by corresponding letters. In this case the glass runs longitudinally across, so as to form the side whole. In tig. 4 the glass is set vertically. The application of the glass to the coach-lamp is no part of my invention.
Having fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a coach-lamp glass, herein fully described, aud illustrated in figs. 1. and 2.
JAMES H. DOWNS.
