Description

D8-397. OR D28o2l2 EX DESIGN.
C. B. VON BIBDENPBLD. NUT.
No. 28,212. Patented Jan. 25, 1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CURT B. VON BIEDENFELD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE KELLEY, MAUS 8.: COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A NUT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,212, dated January 25, 1898.
Application filed October 16, 1898. Serial FO- 609,153. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CURT B. VON BIEDEN- FELD, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design or Useful Shape for a Nut, of which the following, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact specification.
In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a nut, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; and Fig. 3 is an axial section taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 1.
The leading features of my design consist of a nut presenting in its outer end the appearance of the depressed annular flange or countersink C,surrounding a central aperture 0, which appear when viewed from the outer end, and an annular flange or ledge A, whose inner circumference is formed by the aperture c and is of less diameter than the threaded bore of the nut as appearing when viewed from the inner end of the bore.
The exterior of the body portion of the nut is provided with a number of flat sides B, forming a hexagon in plan view, as shown in Fig. 1, while the outer end of the nut is provided with the depressed annular flange or countersink C, which also looks like a flared cavity sloping inwardly, but gradually inclined to the central annular aperture or opening 6, which when viewed, as in Fig. 1, appears like a circle of less diameter than the circle constituting the outer edge of the countersink G. hen the nut is Viewed from the inner end, there appears a flange or ledge A, whose inner circumference or edge is constituted by the aperture 0, while its outer circumference is constituted by the threaded bore of the nut, which is of greater diameter than the aperture 0.
The inner end of the nut is provided with a surrounding enlargement or flange E, whose inner face is countersunk, as shown at e, thus leaving the narrow marginal rib e, which appears in Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The new and original design or useful shape for a nut, substantially as herein shown and described.
CURT B. VON BIEDEJFELD.
