DESIGN FOR A COMPOUND TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,679, dated February 23, 1897.
Application filed fi o 2,1896. Serial No. 607,713- Term of patent 3i years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR ABERER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Compound Tool, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and wherein like symbols refer to like parts wherever they occur, Figure l. is a front view of a compound tool conforming to my design. Fig. 2 is an edge View thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view through the fluted knife-blade; and Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional \"lGW through the handle of the compound tool and the shank of either tool, the same View serving for a section near either end of the handle.
The handle 1 in my design is of the form of a hollow shell of elliptical cross-section. The cross-section of the shank of each tool is a curve like an ellipse divided on or parallel with its major axis, but the shank tapers slightly toward its end, so that a cross section at its end is smaller than the internal crosssection of the handle and a cross-section near the blade is larger.
One of the interchangeable tools has the form of a flat blade 2, having one edge fluted and the opposite edge rolled or curled. The form of the guard-wire 3 is a straight line terminating at each end in a laterally-arranged helical coil, the straight portion being slightly in front of and above the fluted edge of the blade, which edge is wedged between consecutive turns of the helices at the ends of said guard. The other blade or tool 4 has a curved surface narrowing or tapering on each side to a rounded end, said end and tapering portion being sharp-edged. An clongated slot is located longitudinally in the middle of said blade or tool, and has one of its long edges projecting slightly beyond the surface of the tool.
\Yhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design fora compound tool substantially as shown and described.
OSCAR ABERER.
