ALBERT S. NEWBY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
DESIGN FOR A GRATE.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. NEWBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and original Design for Front and Bottom Grates; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and close description.
My invention relates to designs for stove- 1o grates, with special reference to bottom and front grates; and the distinguishing feature of my design consists, first, in a frame for a bottom or horizontal grate, with grooves in said frame; second, in a bottom or horizontal grate set in a frame having grooves therein;
third, in a front or upright grate curved out- I wardly; fourth, in a front grate curved outwardly, having a platform extending from the upper edge in a horizontal plane and having grooves in said platform; fifth, in a bottom and front grate curved outwardly and united to the horizontal grate, and, sixth, in a bottom grate set in a frame having grooves therein and united to an upright front grate curved outwardly and having a platform extending outwardly from the upper edge of the front grate and said platform provided with grooves.
The grate is constructed with a horizontal bottom frame having a grate therein united to a curved upright portion forming the front grate. At right angles to the top edge of the upright curved portion is a platform or shelf extending out a short distance, with two right 3 5 angles at its opposite longitudinal ends.
The frame for the bottom grate is provided with grooves running lengthwise thereof and similar grooves running along the ends and crossing the longitudinal grooves, forming at 4,0 the outer corners of the frame rectangular blocks or squares between the grooves.
The upright curved portion is provided with similar grooves running up its ends and along on the platform or shelf extending out 4 5 a short distance, and one or more said grooves running along the outer portion of the platform at right angles to the grooves on the ends. The platform is also supplied with one or more grooves running parallel with the curve of the upright portion. The front grate is corrugated and provided with perpendicular bars set at a short distance apart, leaving open spaces between the bars.
All of the foregoing will be fully described in the following specification and illustrated 5 5 in the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective of a grate made in substantial accord with my design. Fig. 2 represents a cross-section through line 6 a X X of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through line Z Z of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A designates the bottom frame, a the longitudinal grooves, and b the end grooves. It willbe seen that the grooves a and I) cross each other at right angles, forming the rectangular blocks or squares d. \Vithin the frameA is hung the bottom grate B, having the end bars e united by the longitudinal bars f, the front one of which curves to correspond with the curve of the front grate, and the cross-bars g and pivot-pins h. The bars e are provided with horizontal projections 7c.
The upright or front portion 0 is curved and is supplied with corrugations 6 along the inner curve. A bar D is connected to the body C by an upright bar E. A platform F extends out from the top of the front grate 0, having the grooves M curved to a parallel with the curve C. There are also one or more grooves a, parallel with the grooves a, upon the outer portion of the platform F, and grooves O at right angles to the grooves 02 and forming the blocks or spaces p.
hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for front and bottom grates, as herein described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT S. NEIV BY.
