To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH T. Grate-fronts consist of the upper portion, sometimes in the form of bars designed for preventing the fuel from falling out in front, and the ash-guard fitted thereto below and usually provided with a damper.
The accompanying drawing is a view of a grate-front, showing my design.
The leading feature of my design consists of a gorgon-face with open mouth in connection with scroll-work on each side thereof. Below this is shown open fret-work in the form of downwardly-extendingribs, these ribs being curved outwardly upon each side of the center. Scroll-work in relief is shown at the extreme ends of the fret-Work. Thus the head or face a. is placed centrally, so as to appear between the scroll-work b c. The ribbed fret-work below is indicated at (l e. The ribs (1 c are bent outwardly from the center I". Above these ribs between the straight plain raised portion g and the curved portion 7a appears the fluted ornamental edge 2 At the outer ends of the ribbed fret-work appear the scrolls Z: Z in relief. The scroll-work b c is extended downwardly to be on opposite sides of the fluted ornament a".
