Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOIIN T. CURRAN, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO TIFFANY ch COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR SPOONS, 80G.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,173, dated September 30, 1890.
Application iiled July 26, 1890. Serial No. 360,095. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN T. OURRAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, New York, have invented a new and original Design for Spoons, Forks, and other Table Utensils, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of the same.
This invention relates toa design to be imparted to or worked upon spoons, forks, and other table utensils; and it consists in the novel configuration and ornamentation herein specifically shown and claimed.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a front view of a spoon with my design applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same.
My design is mainly worked upon and imzo parted to the handle of the table utensil, al-
though a portion of the design extends over the body of the article. The outline of .the edges of the handle is composed of an undulating line, broken and varied occasionally in correspondence with the ornamentation of the handle. The front and back faces of the handle are ornamented with figures in relief. My design is composed of two parts-the front A (shown in Fig. 1) and the back B. 3o (Shown in Fig. 2.) The front part A is decorated along each side by a series of lines arranged near the edge or side of the handle. These lines terminate at the base of the handie in curved and scroll-shaped ornaments.
A short distance above the base they cross each other in curved and wavy lines. Above this crossingpeint several of the lines merge into curved and scroll ornaments, and above and below these ornaments an ornamentation is provided over and about and between the 4o side lines, resembling the filaments of Indian corn or maize. In the lower part of the wider portion of the handle several curved and scroll ornaments are provided, interspersed with the ornaments resembling the filaments of Indian corn or maize. At the upper or outer end of the handle the side lines terminate in curved and scroll ornaments. The back part B has at the base of the handle and extending over a portion of the bowl of the spoon or otherarticle an 5o ornamentation composed of wavy lines ter minating in scrolls. A series of lilies extends along near each edge or side of the handle. A short distance above the base these lines cross each other in curved and wavy lines. Above this crossing-point the side lines are provided with curved and scroll ornaments and with an ornamentation resembling the filaments of Indian corn or maize. The Side lines terminate at the upper or outer portion 6o of the handle in curved and scroll ornaments.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a design for spoons, forks, or other table utensils, the front A, substantially as o5 shown.
2. In a design for spoons, forks, or other table utensils, the back B, substantially as Shown.
3. The design for spoons, forks, or other 7o table utensils, consisting of the front A and the back B, substantially as shown.
JOI-IN T. CURRAN.
