CARPET.
No. 18,126. Patented Mar. 6, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES L. FOLSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18.126, dated March 6, 1888. A pplication filed January 26, 1888. Serial No. 262,017. Tenn of patent 3} years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES L. FoLsoM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following isa specification, reference bei ng had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part ofthe same.
The in vention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
The characteristic feature of my design is the figure A, which is repeated continuously over the face of the carpet, as shown in the photograph. The figure A is a scrollshaped 2o figure having a main or central curving stem,
the ends of which are curved into scroll forms. From this central stem project around the edges of the figure short stems or branches, which are also scrolled or curved. The general outline of the figure is therefore of a serolllike character. The figure is substantially oval in form, the spaces between the different parts of the scrolls being filled in with a shadow-work.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure A, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figures A repeated, as described, substantially as shown.
