UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS E. MATUSKA, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A FOLDING BED-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16.986, dated November 16, 1886.
Application filed April 5, 1880. Serial No. 197,916. Term oi latent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, LOUIS E. MATUSKA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago,in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and designed a new and original Design for a Folding Bed-Frame, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photo graphs, forming part thereof.
My invention consists in a new and original design for the frame or case of a folding bed, i he same consisting of the shape, confign ration, and ornamentation of a mantel upon the lower face thereof.
"When the bed is closed, the bottom of the section thereof which is exposed to view is so designed that its sidecdges, to all appearances, have pillars supported on bases which are separated from said pillars by transverse mold ing or bead. These pillars are ornamented by vertical corrugation, as shown, and have at their tops capitals which are ornamented by a design consisting of a central square with radiating corrugations carved therein. The bases of these pillars are connected by a framebase, which is set back a slight distance from the vertical plane of the face of said bases; The capitals of the said pillars are likewise connnectcd by a transverse molding, and this latter molding, being raised from the surface of the bottom of the bed, givesthat part of the same above the said molding the appearance of a panel of rectangular shape.
There is a central square panel in my design, which is bounded by the pillars on the sides and by the so-called frame-base and rectangular panel on the bottom and top, re spectively. This central panel is ornamented by a design consisting of a confusion of flowers, birds, and leaves in relief, with afancy border on the top and bottom, as shown.
Thedesign as above described is surmounted by a shelf, thus completing the appearance of a mantel.
The design for a folding bed frame, as herein shown and described, the same consisting of the bed-frame having the particular shape, configuration, and ornamentation of the pillars, the bases, and capitals thereof, the rectangular panel. and the central square panel, and the frame-base.
LOUIS E. MATUSKA.
