SAMUEL C. BRADLEY, OF NEW HAVENCONNEOTICUT, ASSIGNOR' TO 'HIMSELF AND CHARLES E. THOMPSON & C0., 0F SAME, PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 99,826, lated February 15, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent :arid making part of the same To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, SAMUEL C. BRADLEY, of N ew Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State yof Connecticut, have invented a new Ilnprovenient in Joiners Clamp; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and the letters of reference marked Vthereon, to be a full, clear, and exact. description of' the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specilication, and represent in Figure 1, a side view,
Figure 2, a top view, the movable arm locked in i position, and in notches, may be set into such notch and firmly hold the. arm in position.
A is the beam, constructed with a fixed arm, B, and upon the sides of the beam grooves a are formed. Over the beam an adjustable arm, C, is arranged, to slide freely on the beam, and into the outer end of the arm a. binding screw, D, is set.
Ou the arm O a slide, d, is arranged, so as to be set into any one of' the grooves, as' in figs. l and 2, when the arm is adjusted, so as to bring the slide into p0- sition, that it may be set into one of the grooves, and when so set, as in figs. -1 and 2, the arm is rmly held.
To adjust the arm, draw out the slideyas denoted in broken lines, iig. 1, and as also shown in fig.'3, and movethe arm C to or from the fixed arm B to the desired position, and return the slide into' a corresponding notch.
By this construction, moved to any position, and the clamp set uponrthe `work without the necessity of running the screw to any great length out or in,'as in clamps oi" common construction. Y
I am aware that clamps have been constructed with adjustable arms, I therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming such construction; but
I do claim- A clamp, composed of the beam A, constructed with the fixed arm B and grooves a, in combination with the adjustable arm C, having the slide al ar ranged thereonpand operating in the manner described.
. SAMUEL C. BRADLEY.
