Description
@aient dtjiifira ANDREW (l. BLACK, OF KAUKAUNA,v WISCONSIN.
Lette/rs 'Patent No. 99,053, dated .January 25, 1870; arztedatedI Jan-nary 16, 1870.
IMPROVEMENTl IN MILKING-APPARATUS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making `part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW G. BLACK, of Kaukauna, in the county' of Outagamie, and State of Wiscousin, have invented an Improved Milking-Appara tus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view of the apparatus complete.
YMy invention consists in improvements in a combination milking-stool and pail-stand, and in uniting, with such improved apparatus, a clog or weight to be attached to the tail of the cow., to prevent thosermovements lof it which would interfere with the cleanliness of the operation of milking, all as hereinafter set forth. -Inthe accompanying drawing? A marks the body of the stool, on which the milker is to sit, and
B, the stand which supports the milking-pail. To the top of the stool is attached, by the pivot p, and so as to swivel freely, the inclined turn-table G.
A similar turntable, D, is attached, by pivot p', to the top of the pail-stand B. 4
The object of these inclined turn-tables is to provide for the adjustment of the stool and stand, when `on an uneven surface, so that the pail and the personof the milker will always rest upon a level or nearly level surface.
A ledge, l-1 prevents the pail from slipping o the table D.
Attached to the stool or stand, by a cord or chain, E, is the clog F, which is a heavy piece of wood, having the hooks G attached to it by thelstaples s s. rlhis clog, which should be about five or six pounds in weight, is intended to be attached to the tail of the cow, by passing' the hooks G into the tuft of hair at its lower end. When thus attached, the ordinary movements of the tail are prevented, anda cow, accustomed to be milked with the clog attached, soon ceases entirely to attempt them.
Having thus fully described my invention,
'What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A milking-stool, combining a stand forthe milk-pail and a seat for the millier, each provided with an inclined turning-table, by which the level of the seat and of .thepail may be maintained, when the stool rests upon an inclined or uneven surface, as set forth.
The above specifcation'of my said invention, signed and witnessed at Washington, this 24th day of April, A. D. 1869.
.ANDREW C. BLACK.-
