This invention relates to cuspidors, and the objects of my invention are, first, to furnish a cuspidor with simple and effective means for retaining the contents therein when the cuspidor is accidentally upset or tilted; second, to provide a cuspidor that can be advantageously used in depots, hotels, theaters, and public places for preventing a floor or carpet from being injured by the contents of the cuspidor when the same is upset, and third, to provide a cuspidor consisting of comparatively few parts easily and quickly assembled and maintained in a sanitary condition.

I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that is simple, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein:

A cuspidor in accordance with this invention comprises a receptacle having a funnel-shaped detachable mouth-piece with the lower end of said mouth-piece provided with an auxiliary funnel that extends into the receptacle and forms an annular compartment in the top part thereof into which flows the contents of the receptacle when the cuspidor is accidentally upset or tilted.

The receptacle comprises a cylindrical shell 1 having the upper end thereof tapered, as at 2, and the lower end thereof tapered, as at 3. The upper tapered end of the shell terminates in a cylindrical neck 4 having an annular inwardly projecting flange 5. The tapered end 3 terminates in a cylindrical base 6 having a central inwardly projecting and conical-shaped bottom 7.

Mounted upon the neck 4 is a funnelshaped mouth-piece 8 provided with an annular collar 9 adapted to fit over the neck 41. A resilient annular gasket or ring 10 is interposed between the neck and the collar 9 to form a non-leakable connection between said neck and collar. The lower end of the funnel-shaped mouth-piece 8 extends to the cylindrical shell 1 and is surrounded by an auxiliary funnel 11 having the upper edges thereof formed integral or suitably connected to the outer side of the funnel-shaped mouth-piece 8 at a point removed from the lower open end 12 thereof. The lower end of the auxiliary funnel 1.1 extends into the shell 1 and cooperates with the upper tapered end 2 of the shell in forming an annular compartment 12 in the upper part of the receptacle. It is this compartment that receives the contents of the receptacle when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset.

The cuspidor can be made of light and durable metal and of any desired shape.

\Vhat I claim, is:

A cuspidor comprising a receptacle having a cylindrical intermediate portion and tapering upper and lower portions, a cylindrical neck extending from said tapering upper portion, a cylindrical base depending from said tapering lower portion, said base of the same diameter as said neck, a conical-shaped bottom arranged within said base and projecting into the lower part of the lower tapering portions and completely inclosed by said base, a funnel-shaped mouth piece extending through said neck and into said tapering upper portion, a cylindrical collar *arried by and depending from said mouth on said tapering upper portion of the receptacle, a gasket mounted upon the top edge of the neck and bearing against said collar and said mouth piece, and an auxiliary funnel carried by and surrounding the lower end of said funnel-shaped mouth piece, said auxiliary funnel extending piece and surrouiuling the neck and seated through said tapering upper portion and In testimony whereof I afiix my signature into said cylindrical intermediate portion in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
