IMPROVE!) WASEING-MACHINE.
The Schedule 'referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same. y
To all it may concern.;
. moved.
Figure IV is a vertical section through the lines yy, showing th'el corrugated washers.
Figure V is the wash-board removed from its'position in the machine.V l
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and reliable, but at the same time a convenient; machine for washing clothes, which will allow the person operating it to be seated, and one which, when not in v use, can be used as a kitchen or ironing-table. l
'lo enable others skilled in the art to understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which 1 have carried it out.
In the said drawings- A represents the box or outer casing of my machine. Itis evident that while thiscasiug may be manufactured out`of very cheap material, and at a very low price, itmay also be made of iiue material, so as to constitute a handsome piece of furniture.
'B is the top of my machine, which` lits tightly upon the box A, so as to prevent the-escape of water during the process of washing. l
This top also forms the kitchen or ironingetable when the machine is not being used for washing.
a a are legs supporting the washing-machine and table.
clothes when the machine is in operation.
O is a corrugated and perforated wash-hoard, placed in one end of the box A, to catch the pressure of the Instead of this board, a series of bars might be used.
.In the rear of the board O, and between'it andthe end ofthe box A, are placed the springs c c, so'as Vto secure an easy yielding motion to the wash-board, which will cause the board to -adj ust itself to the pressure lof the washers D D. These washers move inpatallel lilies, and alternately toward the \vasl1boald G, being held in place by means of the guides b b and grooves d d, and being worked by the heut shaft E, to which the washers are attached by the' connectingrods e e, which may be made either rigid or with springs.
Thebent shaftE has its bearings iu the sides ofthe box A. It passes into the bearing at m, through the slot n, which slot is subsequently covered by the plate s, secured to thebox A by means of the-screws r fr.
.F is an' outlet, through which to discharge the water.
When'the machine is used as a table, the crank G is slipped oli and stored inside of the machine.
Claim.
What I claim as my iuveution, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l The washing-machine and table combined, consisting of the box A, the top B, the wash-board 0, with its springs c c, the washers D D, the springs g g, guides b b, the connecting-rods e e, and bent shaft E, all constructed, combined, and arranged as shown and described.
