Letters Patent No. 98,710, dated January 11, 1870; antedated January 3, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN RULING-DEVICE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, E. H. ROBINSON, of Jamesville, in the county of Rock, and State of \Visconsih, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Ruling-Device; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyiug' drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Fignre 1 represents a plan view of my improved device, and
Figure 2 represents an edge view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple device, which may be readily adjusted, to make parallel lines, or lines of any angle. i
It consists of a square or rule, having tongues projecting from one side at each end, and provided with a cross-bar between the said tongues, which may be adjusted to anyangle and secured by set-screws.
A represents'a rule or square, provided with the tongues B, which are preferablymade of steel, and may be provided with any suitable scale.
0 represents a cross-piece, slotted at each end, to embrace the tongues, and provided with set-screws,
D, to clamp the ends fast to the tongues or to the part A, the slots in the part 0 being of sufficient length to allow the ends to spring down sufficiently for the purpose.
The part 0 may be set parallel with the part A, when it serves as 'a gauge for making lines parallel with the side of the thing being worked, and in this condition it serves also for making lines at right angles thereto. I
For making other angular lines, the part 0 is adj usted on the tongues, or to one tongue, and the part A, as maybe desired, whereby lines of any angle may be produced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent v The ruling-device, consisting of the square A, having the tongue 13 rigidly formed upon its ends to produce two permanent right angles, said tongue and square adapted to receive at any angle the slotted adjustable bar 0, as herein described, for the purpose specified.
E. H. ROBINSON. Witnesses:
S. P. WILCOX, WM.1VINKLEY.
