Description

CONKLIN, 0F INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
` Letters Patent No. 98,564, dated January 4, l18770.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOULDER-BRACES.
The Schedule referred to in these'Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may'conce-r'n Be it known that I, HENRY N. GONKLIN, of Indianapolis, in thevcounty of Marion, and State of Indiana, haveinvented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Shoulder-Braces and Suspenders; and I `do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
extended.
My invention relates to shoulder-braces, and consists mainly in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, whereby a shoulder-brace is combined with apair of Suspenders in such a manner as to serve au eiiicient purpose.
`The letters A A, -of the drawings, designate an ordinary pair of Suspenders, the straps of which are passed through the loops 0f the brace-band in the manner hereafter shown. Y
The letters B B designate 'the brace, formed of two bands, connected together at the back by means of lacing, or by a buckle, as may be desirable:
Each band is made in two parts, strongly sewn together, and reinforced at the angle C, to which part the lacing or buckle is attached. y
' One end ofV each brace-band passes over the shoulder, and' is held in'position by the suspender-strap,
which passes through a loop, D, sewn to the upper surface of the brace-band..
The other and lower end of the brace-band passes under the arm, and is attached to the first-mentioned end by means of a double plate-buckle, I, of the forml shown, or by such other fastening as may be desirable.
The suspender-strap also passesthrou'gh a loop, E, sewn to the lower end of the brace-band.
It is apparent that my braces may be used with any ordinary pair of suspendersin such a manner that the full bracing power,.both of Suspenders aud braces, is
secured.
In this manner economy is secured, as the braces generally last much longer than the Suspenders, and consequently when combined, in the manufacture, with Suspenders, are often thrown away in good condition.
IVha-t I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Bateut, is-
The ,shonlder-brace herein described, consisting of the straps B B B B, unit-ed and adjustably connected at 0,-and having buckles I I I I, and loops D D,.E E,
for attachment to the. suspender-straps, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above, Ihave hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY N. CONKLIN.
Witnesses l C. O. CAMPBELL, HENRY VANDEGRIFT.
