Said seccured, preferably riveted together. The tions 14, during the filling of a car with grain may be swung inwardly to aiiord suflilower end of the post 4 is bifurcated as indicated to form a substantially rectangular cient opening above the same for admission To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM H. FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Doors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in grain doors and has for its object the production of a door of this character which will be of durable and economical construcbe more readily underto the accompanying part of this specifica- Amm of the grain. Upon filling of thecar said sect-ions will be swung to vertical position and, in which position7 the same will be held by the pressure of the grain thereon. Pivotally secured as at 15 to the outer sides of one of each of the sections 11 and 14 is a strap 16. The straps 16 are adapted to extend around the outer sides of the post 4, when the door sections are in operative position, the free extremities thereof 'being slotted for engagement by the turn buttons 17 provided upon the other of the sections 11 and 14. Vhen so arranged the straps 16 will evidently serve to loclr the door sections to the post 4, preventing inward movement thereof.
Secured upon the outer sides of the lower ends of the members 5 of the post 4 are angular guide members 18 which are adapted to form guide channels for a closure plate 19 which is vertically slidable therein, the
latter evidently serving as a closure for the' opening or passageway 2.
2O indicates a reinforcing `angle iron] which is secured upon the outer side of the closure 19, said angleiron also serving as a means of engagement for the hand to effect sliding movementof the closure.
Secured to and upwardly extending from the closure 19 is a bar 21, the latter being provided with a plurality of spaced slots 22. Said slots are adapted to be engaged by a turn button 23 arranged in the post 4 Y durable and is simple and whereby the closure may be held at various elevations as desired. Provided upon the outer edges of the door sections 11 are spaced eyes may be supported in inoperative positions upon supporting hooks 25 arranged within the car for that purpose. As indicated in Fig. 3 the post 4 may also be supported by one of the supporting hooks 25 in inoperative position together with the door sections 11. Unlawful removal of the door sections is prevented by chains 26 which serve to loclr the same, as indicated, to the car.
A door of a construction as set forth is of construction, the same may be readily and quickly arranged in position for use, and as readily and quickly removed and arranged in inopera- 24, whereby said sections tive position. The provision of the opening 2 and the readily slidable closure 19 therefor affords means whereby the grain may be readily unloaded from the car without necessitating the removal of the sections 11.
Vhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my grain door I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts de scribecl without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the exact details set forth but desire to avail myself of such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a car having a doorway, of a vertically extending post having a bifurcated lower' end, said post being removably supported substantially central in said doorway; door sections resting `against said post and against the vertical frame posts of said doorway, the said door sections being cutaway to form an opening registering with said bifurcated lower end; and a closure mounted upon the bifurcated lower end of said post, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a car having a doorway, of a vertically extending post removably supported substantially central in said doorway, said post consisting of two angle irons riveted together at their central and upper portions but spread apart at their lower ends to provide a discharge opening; door sections resting against said post, said door sections being cut away to form l an opening registering with said discharge l opening; and a closure for said discharge ll opening, substantially as described. l In testimony whereof I have signed my l name to this specification in the presence of l two subscribing witnesses. l
