Description

NIETERS, PHOTO-UTMDGRAPNER, WASHINGTON. D (2A lthen secured by l thttaifttte @met mitin.
s. N. PARK, 0E BEooM'sBUEY, NEW JERSEY.
\- Leners Patent No. 98,188, dated December 21,1869.
l IMPROVEMENT IN RAILWAY-RAIL CHAIRS.
l l The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom. it may concern y 'Be it known that I, S. N PARK, of Bloomsbury, in the county of Hunterdon, and in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad-Chairs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,.clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompz'tnying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a par t of this, specilicntion.
The nature of my invention consist-s in the construction of a railroad-chair,having, on the inside, four projecting points, whichl drop down through notches made in the base of the rails, and the chair an inclined or wedge-shaped false bottom.A j
In order to enable others, skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and'use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, ll'eferring to the annexed drawings, in which vFigure l is au end view of the chair, with the rails inserted, Y
Figure 2 is a side view of the rails, showing n. section of the chair,
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vvertical section of the railroad-chair, and
Figure 4 is a bottom View of the rail, showing th notches in its base.
A represents the railroad-chair made of one piece, in such a manner that the rails B B can be inserted, one from each end.
In the roof of the chairA are four projections, a a, one on each side, at each end, and when the hails are inserted in the chair, the-chair drops down with said projections through notches, b b, made in the base of the rail. The chair A then fits snugly on -top of the base, and on' the Asides of the rails B B.
Under 'the base ofthe rails, through the chair, is
then inserted a false bottom, G,.which firmly holds the chair and rails together. The false 'bottom C isv inclined or wedge-shaped, and the bottom of the chair has a corresponding incline,so that the false bottom will present a level surface against the base'of the rails.
The false bottom C is locked by a key, D, passed through the same, as seen in iig. l.
Having thus fullydescribed my invention,
ters Patent, is-
The combination of' the chair A, projections a c, rails B B, with notches b l, false bottom G, and key What I claim as new, and desire to secure by'L'et- D, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In' testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 13th day of October, 1869. I S. N. PARK.
