FISHING-STOOL.
earnest Specification of Letters Patent.
iatented Jan. 17, 1911.
Application filed July 9, 1910. Serial No. 571,251.
upper face of the metal disk h when the nut Il'o all who m tt may concern:
Be itltnown that 1, CHARLES F. FRASER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Petersburg, in the county of Dinwiddie and .Stateof Virginia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Fishing Stools, of which the following is a full and clear specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my device applied to a folding stool; Fig. 2 an end elevation of the stool showing one of my devices attached thereto in position to support a fishing pole; and Figs; 3 and 4: are detail vertical sectional views taken at right angles to each other through the pole supporting device.
The object ofthis invention is to provide a simple device for adjustably supporting a'lishing pole in fishing position, so that the fisherman shall be relieved of the tiresome necessity of constantly holding the pole in h hand, as more fully hereina ter set forth.
in the drawings, a designates a supporting board which in the present instance 18 the top or seat portion of a folding stool but which, as is obvious, may be the seat of a boat, a wharf, or other desirable support. In the illustration shown, the seat a isprovided with. two pairs of folding legs 7/ and 0, hinged together where they cross each other at (Z. The legs 0 are hinged to the under side of the seat ate, and the upper ends ofthe legs L are slidingly connected to the under sides of the seat, so that the legs may be folded within each other and against the under side of the seat, to have compactness in carrying the stool about. Any other suitable means for supporting the seat may be employed. g
'Any suitable number of my improved pole supports may be employed, two being shown on the seat in the drawing, ,one at each end of the seat. Each of the devices consists of a bolt extending up through the support a and provided on its upper end with a .wing nut g. Loosely mounted on the bolt between the nut and a metal disk 71, on the support is a bar which at equi-distant points from the bolt is provided with notches j in its under edge. These notches fit down over the side bars 76 of the pole holder, these sidebars is being clamped down on the y is screwed down on the bar The side bars 70 are parallel with each other and at the point where they bear upon the metal disk it they are curved or bowed downwardly so that the convexnnder side of these bowed portions bear upon said plate h. From these bowed portions the side bars extend upwardly and rearwardly and upwardly and forwardly, the ends of the rearwardly extending parts being connected by an arched portion k. The forward upwardly extending portions of the bars is extend to a point higher than the'rearward extending portions and at their extreme upper ends are bent downwardly and forwardly at it, and these downwardly extending portions 76 are connected by a downwardly curved connecting portion As shown in Fig. 2, when the pole is placed in position, its butt end is inserted under the 1 loop or arched portion h and the upper portion of the handle of the pole is allowed to rest in the saddlelike crotch formed by the parts 7c and k In this way the pole will be so held that lateral vibration or pulling cannot dislodge it while at the same time it may be quickly lifted out of the holder. It will also be observed that by reason of the curve or bend in the side bars the pole holding frame may be readily adjusted back and forth underneath the clamp bar 71 to give the pole any inclination that is desired, and
it will be further observed that the pole holding frame may be swungaround in.
either direction on a vertical axis since the clamp bar'z' is rotatably supported on the bolt. A feature of this device is its simplicity since the shape of the pole holding frame and the arrangement of the'clamping means permits all the desired adjustments to be obtained withthe use of but a single clamp bolt.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In combination .with a suitable support, a
clamp bolt carried thereby, a rotatable clamping bar on the bolt,a pole holding frame clamped between the bar and the support and constructed of a pair of side-bars curved downwardly at a point under the said clamp bar whereby said pole holding upper ends.
frame may be mtativel'y as well es vertically In teStimnny whereof- I hereunto airix my adjusted, the rear ends of said side bars besignature in the presenc-emf two witnesses ing extended upwaniiy and backwardiy this 8th day of July 1910.
and connected together and the forward POLE-W GHARLES FERDNAND FRASER. tions of said side bars being extended up- Witnesses:
wardiy and provided with a crotch at their ROBERT G, BASS,
