CHARLES HART,
OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE HART HEATER COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA.
BURNER FOR WATER-HEATERS.
Application :filed November 30, 1909.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burners for later-Heaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the acco-mpanying drawing.
This invention relates to burners for water heaters and the principal object of the same is to provide a burner for use in connection with a plurality of water coils so that the flames may be projected into the coils to thoroughly heat all parts of the same and also to prevent condensation on the convolutions of the coils and thereby y i prevent the usual drippage from water coils j coils that are heated thereby being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 3 1s a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the fuel supply pipe showing the air supply therefor and also means for mixing the gas and air.
The water heater shown in the accompanying drawings, in so far as the arrangement of casings and water coils, and the l water supply ls'concerned, is the same as that shown 1n the pending application Serial No. 496,451, filed May 17, 1909, and it is the aim of the present invention to provide a burner especially adapted for heating coils that are used in connection with the type of heater shown in said application.
Referring to said accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 designates the outer casing, 2 the inner casing or boiler in which the four coils 3 are vertically arranged in radiating relation to a common center.
The coils are supplied with water from a single supply pipe 4, and discharge into a single Specification of Letters Patent.

arranged so that one will be directly beneath each coil 3. Each spout is equipped with a collar 11 which support the plate 7. The lower ends of said spouts meet below the heater and are joined t0 a fuel supply pipe 12 that has a slotted section 13 through which air is fed to the gas or other fuel, and at a point above said slotted section, the pipe 12 is provided with transverse bars lll-l5, arranged in crossing relation which serve as mixer for the air and gas. The pipe 12 is in communication with a source of fuel supply, not shown, and is equipped with a controlling valve 16.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the burner spouts 10 are held in position to cause them to direct their flame into and through the coils l3 so that said coils will be thoroughly heated at all points and thereby prevent condensation on the coils as the vapor will be carried olf through the flue end 6 of the boiler 2.
What I claim as my invention is l. In an apparatus of thecharacter described, a casing having openings in its bottom, and a burner consisting of a fuel supply pipe with diagonal branched ends projecting through the openings in the bottom of the casing, and having vertical open end portions located at spaced distances apart from each other.
2. In an apparatus of the character described, a casing having an elevated closed bottom with a group of apertures arranged about the center of the bottom, a fuel supply pipe having at its end a plurality of diagonal ipes united at one end with the fuel supplly pipe and projecting through the apertures in the bottom of the casing and formed with vertical open ends, and means located in the fuel supply pipe for feeding air thereto.
3. In an apparatus of the character described, a casing having an elevated closed bottom with a group of apertures arranged about the center of the bottom, a fuel supply pipe having at its end a plurality of diagonal pipes united at one end With the fuel supply pipe and projecting through the apertures in the bottom of the casing and Y formed With Vertical open ends, means located in the fuel supply pipe for feeding air thereto
