The Sqhedle referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of' the same To all 'whom 'it may concern: l l Beit known that I, J oHN. SIMPSON, of Cleveland,

inthe county of Cuyahoga, and inthe State Vof Ohio, have invented certain -new and useful Improvements in p Vises; and dohereby declare that'fthe'following is a full,clear,` and` exactdescl'iption thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, `and to tbe y `letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciiication.4 t

The nature of l my invent-ion consists in inserting,

`within the bench-leg of a-carpentex"s bench, a square socket, provided on the inside with a screw-rack bar,

and, in passing through said socket, a square casing, "open ou one side, vto which casingthe movable jawof -the vise is attached, said casing and movable jaw being operated 'by means, of a screw, which has its threads cutoff on one side.
