Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 16, 1909.
Patented Oct. 18, 1910. Serial No. 533,351.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MINNA Fnonsii, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ash Cans or Barrels, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to ash cans or barrels, and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class which is strongly reinforced at the bottom and provided with rollers whereby it may be conveniently manipulated or moved from one point to another; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in an ash can or barrel constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of an ash can or barrel made according to my invention, and ;Fig. 2 a bottom plan view thereof.
'In the practice of my invention I provide an ash can or barrel (4 which, in the form shown, is circular in cross section but which may be of any desired form and which is open at the top and provided with a bottom I), having a flange 6 which fits within the bottom of the can and is riveted thereto as shown at 12 The bottom of the can a is inclosed by a heavy reinforcing band 0, which is also riveted to the bottom portion of the can by the rivets b and said reinforcing band 0 extends downwardly a predetermined distance below the bottom of the can to form a flange or rim 0 and riveted to said flange or rim 0 at c are cross bars cl having upwardly directed angular end pieces (Z which fit within the reinforcing band 0 and through which the rivet pins at c are passed, and bars are connected centrally by a rivet d Connected with the end portions of the cross bars d, in the form of construction shown, are rollers e and these rollers, in the form of construction shown are mounted in yokes c having shanks 6 which pass through said cross bars and are rotatable therein and are provided with nuts and washers 6*.
By means of this construction the rollers c are swiveled to or in the cross bars 0 and are free to rotate but my invention is not limited to the exact form or construction of the rollers e or to any particular method of or means for connecting said rollers with the bottom of the can or barrel, and various changes in and modifications of these features of the construction may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my inven tion or sacrificing its advantages. The can or barrel is also provided adjacent to the top thereof with handles f by which it may be manipulated in the usual manner, and the depending flange or rim 0 may also be used by one hand while one of the handles 7" is grasped by the other in the operation of lifting and emptying the can the cross bars d may also be used as handles for the same purpose.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An ash can or barrel, the top of which is open and the bottom of which is closed, said bottom being provided with a reinforced depending flange or rim, and cross bars connected with said flange or rim and extending transversely across the bottom of the can or barrel and at a distance there from equal to the depth of said flange or rim and said cross bars being provided with rollers.
2. An ash can or barrel, the top of which is open and the bottom closed, the bottom be-- ing also reinforced and provided with a depending flange or rim and cross bars connected with said flange or rim and extending transversely of said bottom and at a distance therefrom equal to the depth of said flange or rim, and rollers or casters swiveled in the end portions of said cross bars.
