Be it :known that I, WILLIAM SOLOMON, a
4citizen ofwthe United States',` residing at Cheyenne, in the county of Laramie, State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reaction Propelling Mechanisms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de-v scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the Aart to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to ships and has special reference to a mechanism for propelling ships through the water.
. One object of the invention is to improve the construction of reaction propelling mechanism so that the reaction impulses will take place successively.
With the above and other objects in View as will be hereinafter` apparent, the invention consists in general of a ship provided 'A with a reaction impulse propelling mechanisrn of novel character.
The inventlon further consists 1n certain novel details of construction and combina tions of parts hereinafter fully described,

The numeral 10 indicates the hull of the shipI and in this hull is located a driving engine 11 which .may be either steam or i gasolene although in the present instance it is intended to represent a gasolene engine. This engine is operatively connected by a rod 12 with the piston rod of an air compresser 1.3 which supplies air to the storage tank 14. From this storage tank 'lead delivery pipes .15, the pipes being close to-4 gether where they leave the storage tank provided an ordinary valve 17, the two valves being alined and carried by a common stem 18 whereon is -located a belt pulley 19. The shaft vof the engine 11 is likewise provided with a belt pulley 20 and a belt 21 connects these two belt pulleys.
It is obvious that a moving column of water impinging on the water at the stern of the vessel is more effective than a similar column of air, this being due to the fact that the air column hasa greater tendency to break up and rise to the surface. With the present invention the air is compressed by means of the engine and air compressor' in thetank 14. Now, asthe engine runs to cause this compression the valves 17 are alternately opened by therotation ofthe stem`18, this being. caused by the belt and pulley arrangement.- It .will be plain from this that the tubes lalternately have the water ejected therefrom by the infiowing air, ,the latter being prevented from dis-` persing and 'rising during the time ofejec-v tion bythe confining action of the impulse therefrom. It will also be plain that if only one tube were to be employed the impulses would still be causedby the successive admission of fluid pressure impulses to this tube. There has thus been provided a device of this character of high efficiency andnovel construction. f
