PULLEY-BLOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 20, 1910.

To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, CHARLES ANnnnsnN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pulley-Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pulley blocks,
and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide simple means for permitting a rope to be applied to the pulley without requiring the end to be reaved through over the grooved roller in the block.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pulley block having means fon supporting the same and an arm pivoted to the block and adapted to be swung outwardly to permit a bight of the rope to be passed into the pulley without requiring the end to be fed through over the grooved roller in the block.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the pulley block preferably comprising separate plates or support-s having a spacing member 2 at the lower end thereof secured to the block members by means of screws 3 extending through the block mem-' bers and the spacing member 2. Pivotally mounted in the members in the block 1 is a grooved roller 4 mounted on a pintle 5 journaled in the block in the usual manner. The
upper ends of the members 1 are provided with bearings 6, 7, and connected to the bearing 6 is a supporting device 8 having connected to its upper end a curved and in the member 8, said stud being formed upon a cross bar 13 on the member 11. A
square pin 14 extends through the member 8, through the support 9 and through the squared aperture 15 in the pivoted member 11. The outerend of the pin 14 is provided with an eye 16 through which a cotter pin 17 is passed tohold the parts in locked position. The cotter pin 17 is connected to a cord or chain 18 secured to the memberll at 19 to prevent the loss of the cotter pin.
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows: When it is desired to connect a rope a to the block the pin 17 is Withdrawn, and the member 11 is thrown outward to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2, after which a bight in the rope a may be passed over the member 11. and around the grooved roller 4. The member 11 is then swung back into position, and the pin 17 is passed through the eye 16.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a pulley block made in accordance with my invention will save much time in securing the rope in the block, since it does not require feeding the end of the rope through over the grooved roller 4.
My invention is simple in construction, can be manufactured at low cost, is strong, durable and eflicient in use, and is made of few parts not liable to get out of order.
I claim 1. A pulley block having a grooved roller, an apertured supporting arm, a grooved support connected thereto, an arm pivoted to the block and provided with a stud to engage the aperture in the supporting arm, a pin extending through the supporting arm and support and through the pivoted arm. and retaining means for engaging said pin to hold the pivoted arm in place.
2. A pulley block comprising spaced plates, a roller supported by the plates, a support located above the roller and comprising separable members pivotally connected with the said spaced plates, and retaining means for holding the separable members against separation.
