UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
LEONARD D. HIOWARD, OF ST. JOHNSBURY, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN T OOL-FOR OPENING BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 96,700, dated November 9, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD D. HOWARD, of St. J ohnsbury, in the county of Caledonia and State of Vermont, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Tools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specicat-ion, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of my invention in perspective. Fig. 2 is a side view ofthe same. Fig. 3 is a central vertical longitudinal section 'of the same.
My invention has relation to implements for opening boxes; and it consists, mainly, in the combination of a chisel, adapted for driving under or between the boards of a box, with a claw adapted for drawing nails therefrom.
The letter A of the drawings represents the chisel part of my device, having a head cut oil square, as shown at c, to provide for using` a hammer thereon.
The letter B represents a claw, of the usual shape, designed for use in drawing nails.
The above-described tool is formed in one piece of metal, and is a convenient and effective implement for all parties who have boxes to open.
The chisel is a cold-chisel, so made in order that the heads of nails ortacks which cannot be drawn with the claw may be cut off'.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The implement herein described, having chisel A, with its shoulder o, and claw B, constructed substantially as and for the purposes specified.
