Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. MCGEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brady, in the county of Lincoln and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Combined Nut-Locks and Washers, 'of which the following is a speci Another object of the invention is to pro-' vide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly removed from" the nut, so as to allow for the removal of the said nut from the bolt when desired.

With the above and other objects in View which will appear as the description progresses the invention resides in the novel constructionl and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

locking arm engaging one of the edges of the nut.

The combined washer and nut lock is constructed of a single strip of flat, resilient metal and comprises a head or body portion 15 preferably of a circular formation and being provided with a central opening 16 adapted for the reception of a threaded eX- tension of a bolt 17. The head or body 15 is also provided with a plurality of peripheral spurs 17 which as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings are formed integrally with the said head or body 15 and are adapted to be bent downwardly as shown in Figs. 1,2 and 4 of the drawings. The body portion 15 is provided with a rectangular extension 18 andthis extension has its said edges adjacent the head 15 provided with oppositely disposed fingers 19 which are adapted to be bent over the plat or extension 18 to provide suitable ears or the purpose hereinafter to be setforth. The extension 18 has its upper end provided with a centrally arranged opening 20 and the said extension is adapted to be bent upon, itself as indicated by the score 21 and to have its upper portion also bent upon itself as indicated by the score 22. When this member is bent as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 4 of the drawings it will be noted that the same provides a locking arm .and the right angularly bent extension provided with the opening 20, provides a contacting face which may engage one side of a nut, as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings or which may engage over one of the corners of thenut, as indicated in Fig. 4 of the drawings. \Vhen the locking arm i'sbrought in contact with the nut, so. as to prevent the rotation of the same the fingers 19 are bent over. the said locking arm, thereby effectively securing the same, 1t of course being understood that the body portion 15 is first positioned upon the bolt and that its spurs or projections 17 are inserted within the plate to which the bolt 17 is attached.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple, cheap and effective-device for the purpose intended and it is to be understood that while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the invention as it now appears to me, minor details of construction within the scope of the following claim may be resorted to', if desired.
